i dont think the road angel does anything apart from bleep at random times, mine was a complete waste of money, only works on gatsos

I thought that the camera had a laser fitted to it to work out your actual speed??

It must send some signal, even my old Cobra used to get a buzz when one of them was activated!!!!!!

Craig,

The road angel will shout "laser laser check your speed" as the cameras beam hits the front of your car. Unfortunately the road angel is .03 of a second slower than the beam so technically all your road angel is doing is telling you you have a letter coming through the door. (should you have been speeding)

Take into account as well that the speedo can  be 10%higher than the actual speed you were doing. So what for example could have been 90...............might only be 81. Then that 81 could get reduced cos you saw the camera and started braking before the beam hit you..........75.

The only way to be safe is to not speed or buy something special for the front grille[;)]

The Talivan don't use Lasers too. When I got done last month by a van on an overpass on the M74 I got no beep from the RA. I'd not updated the Road Angel and forgot to set the warning distance to something reasonable for the speed I was doing on my TomTom. TomTom knew about it, but I just didn't get warned in time to slow down.

i would be wary of them as well , it seems the plod have been arresting

people with these things or turning up at peoples houses with lowriders

and taking there cars away for investigation

maybe i read it all wrong , but thats the impression i got

(cant do clicky thingy with firefox) [:o]

Then the next thing i would do that i didnt want to cos the more people have these the more people use them then the more the police become aware of there and then the more chance of laws being passed on these.

Laser Jammmers are illegal and could result in your car being flagged on the PNC then the boys turn up at 6am to take your car away and destroy the jammer.

Hence-

This bit of kit is legal and theres nothing they can do about it. Follow the clues, find out what it is, get one........but dont post up what the things called.

Parking sensor- works to beep as you get close to a wall, car etc. just happens to work on the 904nm frequency the radar guns and vans use. Is legal.

Happy hunting.

I am please to say that the Angel never shouted at me and it read 41 when i spotted the jackets and was at 27 with like a second, i was still about 1/4 a way....

So no warning at all....Does this mean i maybe managed a lucky escape?

The answer really is YES, IN THIS CASE YOU SEEM TO BE LUCKY but i know that for the next 14 days you are still going to be thinking about it incase you get a letter.

If the RA works and it didnt go off then they didnt target your car.

Not every car gets pinged, they have to physically target you if they think you may be going too fast.

These guys do this on a daily basis and must have an eye for whats too fast or isnt so maybe they thought you were being a good boy.

both do exactly the same thing Stephen.

The camera van needs a laser bounced off the front of your car to get your speed.

The handheld laser needs a laser bounced off your car to get your speed.

I find your theories intriguing and I'd like to subscribe to your newsletter.

I'm just thinking, I ditched my laser dongle after I got my windscreen changed. Hence the lack of a beep.

my licence is away getting 3 points as we speak , 17 years of having a clean licence gone! [;)]

did anybody get last months Banzai?? there was an article in it about

an retired ex traffic cop called Martin Thwaite whos realeased a book

about how to get around speed traps cameras parking tickets etc

A favourite haunt for plod that stretch. Buggers lull you into a false sense of security an all. One day they'll stand at Fonthill end and you'll be driving towards Holburn Street, spot them, no speeding ticket and all is fine and dandy. Come back next day, notice they aint there, go on yer merry way towards Holburn Street and there they are standing at the opposite end !!

Going by that NESCAMP website, would I be right in saying there are no cameras, fixed or mobile, between Bucksburn** and Inverurie,  surely not ? [*-)]

** Should have said Blackburn, not Bucksburn !!

That one at Corsehill Farm, is that not the one just up from the Airport roundabout as you head north to Blackburn ? Seems odd there's no mention of anything from there out to Inverurie, sure I passed a couple on the way out there yesterday.
