Quiet exhaust but 3" pipework??

Seriously thinking about getting rid of the Blitz Nur spec R in the serach for something with the same performance gains but half the volume. Unwanted attention from Police/other drivers.

Would prefer 3" system as thats whats on the car, any suggestions or comments of whats better...2.5" or 3". Any pros cons to these?

Cheers

shock horror- xmas morning/andy f remap/ cant seelpness/ 3am

From my experience the 3"will give you teh diamteter to run bigger power through the car than the standard 2.5" but doesnt itself make the car louder if the backbox is right for you.

The straight through (without the slight bend near the end) will be slightly louder of course but again if the box thats on it doesnt want to wake the neighbours.....it wont.

The NUR-R is very loud and seems to give good power gians but i would think that if you haev thoughts of remaining attention free, maybe get a another.

I only know whats available through this way cos i live here but Meercat in Ayrshire are making very very good systems for around £500-600 including downpipe to the exact volume you want with very good performance.

My system is a Revolution 3", with an extra custom silencer fitted.

Bit too quiet sometimes for me, but great first thing in the morning and on motorway runs.

First off what power are you running, totally pointless having a 3" System if you are not running 340bhp +

If you want big power without the noise then ask H&S to make you a system and they can add a silencer in the centre section. Best thing to do is give them a call and they can advise you the best way forward.

Any decent Custom builder like C&C Custom Stainless in Hillington or Meercat will build you a system to your requirements, with the number of resonators fitted that can be squeezed in/baffled back box etc, with a minimal loss of power.  Support local builders by buying local - that way you get local service too, not that there is any good reason other than this not to buy from the likes of H&S.

2 1/2 inch system is good for back pressure unless planning to go above the 340/350 BHP bracket (as Mark said above), when you should get a 3 inch system.  Also depends on the size of your turbo.

What's the point in buying a 2.5" system, if later on you want more power?

More sensible in my eye's to get a 3" system now, when all you'll be sacraficing(sp?) just now, is a few lbs ft.

No matter what power your running a 3" system is better as it's more free flowing so easier to get power from.

Plenty of big power cars ( 400 ish) use a 2.5" but it takes more to get there.

Good response, thanks, I do have the bung for the exhaust but feel with it in, it slightly restricts power.

Dunno what i'll do, maybe fit equal length headers? Mate has done this to hid and has made it quieter (blitz nur spec R on his too)

Decisions decisions.

Fastscooby what make is your backbox?

Just to throw a wobbler into the equation, i run a 3" system with an Sti rear silencer which still gave 500bhp and torque on mine. Nice and almost standard quiet.

Definitely a difference in every which way when i put the straight through 3" rear silencer on though....  [;)]

Dont think there was a name on the exhaust but it has only done a few thousand miles, Here is a few pics of it

Not sure my equal length headers made the car "quieter" (ported exhaust system combined with full decat up/down/centre pipes, jap back box)

<4000 RPM - less "scooby signature" boxer note, slightly more puttering/backfire on deceleration - quieter around the culdesac perhaps.

4000RPM to 8000RPM on the road- sit yer lug next to a Ducati 999 superbike (ear defenders on).  Lots of pops and bangs on way down under braking/gear change.

You get the idea :D
