col666 Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 Tried to remove central cubby pocket thing on dash earlier. Fitting gauge pod and wanted to remove the whole thing to look underneath before I attack it with drill! Took the 2 screws out at each side under lid, also removed 2 screws from around cup holder although I dont think I had to. The back seems loose but is still very well attached around the heater grilles. Anybody help? Col.
RaymondH Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 Hi Col What you have done is correct; the assembly is held by a lug either side of the grilles and needs a right good pull to get them out. I pass a bit of string thriugh the lid catch (so that I can get a good grip of it) and also grip it behind the lid. Straddle the inside of the car so that your butt is over the console (don't sit on it!) and PULL straight back as hard as you can. It will come eventually but just make sure that you don't take a backwards tumble into the back seats when it does [] I don't think that you need to remove the cup holder screws. Good luck. Raymond
col666 Posted April 12, 2006 Author Posted April 12, 2006 Cheers Raymondo...will give it a good tug tomorrow[]
scoobykev Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 I think it is all one part (cubby and vents), i'm sure i had to cut mine when i fitted my gauges. kev
scott_coull Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 Aye as Kev says its all one part. You need to apply a fair bit of pulling pressure to the point that you think it might just snap. I never cut mine, I drilled a hole in the base big enough for the defi connector to get through then refitted it it minus the lid obvioulsy. I used super strong double sided sticky tape to fix the gauge holder/lid on. Also can screw it with a self tapper from the underside of the tray up into the gauge holder. If you need a hand with the gauges colin then give me a shout. Fitted the defis in mines and they seem to work fine [] Have a look at Chiarks site, I found it very helpfull http://www.chiark.com/scooby/gauges_interior.asp Cheers Coulster

WUZ Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 Hidden talents there Scott, Alot of these jobs are not hard, and just require the confidence to do them, Good luck Coll. I Agree - need some balls to do some things! Russell
RA Dunk Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 wish i had the balls to attempt lots of things taking stuff off or apart is easy for me its putting em back together thats tha hard part lol
1488 Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 Take those 2 screws out, then prise the 2 vents out, then prise the whole pocket out. Use a flat screw driver or a butter knife. Then unscrew the lid. I drilled a 10mm hole in the pocket for the vacume pipe and cables to pass through. Then ran the wires and hose from there into the engine bay. Theres loads of room. I ran an earth down to the chassis next to the gear stick and a live (which only comes on with the ignition) to the back of the headlight wash switch. Its all very easy, just takes a long time to do it. I had to remove the centre console, radio, gearstick and handbrake surrounds. I also took the glovebox out but try to do the job without removing it, It rattles and creaks alot now. It took me about 3 hours to do it. Then you've got the problem of securing the gauge pod to the pocket. I used a load of sticky back sellotape pads. They work a treat. Oh and ignore the crap gearknob in the picture, Ive got a sweet new 'Trust' one now,
scoobymadburd Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Did u have any joy getting it removed?? Claire
