iain_ogston Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 Has anyone had any problems with an STI v6 engine? I'm getting an STI v6 short engine with ported heads stuck into my 95 RA and would like to know of problems anyone has encountered with this engine. Think I should be okay cos it's new and comes with 1 years subaru warranty.
Gumball Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 on a 95 car you have individual coil packs, on a v6 car its coil leads, your ignition system will need looked at matey, but its not impossible, u just need to box clever. Callum
colin_ross Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 As long as you carry over your old inlet manifold and wiring you should be fine. The coil pack should fit version 6 heads ok (I think). Couly is running with my old version 5 engine in his version 2 and everything went together just fine. You'll also notice that you can't use all of the bellhousing bolts. Think the v6 engine has 6 but the 95 only has 4 but thats not a problem either, just do up the ones you can. What are you carrying over from your car, turbo, manifolds, etc?
WUZ Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 Coil packs will fit the V6heads as they all have the same casting in that area, ie have the securing bolt thread in the Spark Plug well. Sadly, V6 heads will need a V6 Manifold. Hopefully, these Ported heads of your are from a V1-V3 car as they'll match up to your Inlet Manifold. V6 Maniflod will not just "match up" to a MY95 wiring harness as the ISCV has totally different working on the later cars. Easiest way.........fit V1-V3 Ported heads. I think BHP Developments in Aberdeen might be able to help you out! (SHAMELESS PLUG, I KNOW[]) Russell
iain_ogston Posted March 28, 2006 Author Posted March 28, 2006 Thanks for all the advice guys. Sounds like it should be ok! (my local specialist knows what he's doing). Inlet manifolds was one of the things being mentioned when we discussed it. I've already had full exhaust (inc headers) and fuel system all sorted previously. Car is going up on Sunday for a few days work - clutch and flywheel, ECU, boost controller, engine, injectors. Should be an acceleration weapon when it's finished. If I strip my third gear with this setup advice offered was to fit an STi v9 gearbox since they are much stronger than old ones due to 2.5 litre engines coming online (apparently can be fitted to my car with a bit of work). So I could end up with an MY95 WRX RA with STI 6 engine and STI 9 gearbox!!! Russell - where are BHP developments based, I've not heard of them before and internet just maps to a street in kingswells? Is that right?
