Montythegod Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Just taken delivery of some lovely new Iridium spark plugs... now bearing in mine I am running between 1.0 and 1.4 bar (adustable) what is the recommended plug gap ? Or what are yours set to ?
M25 FLYER Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 A big fat 1.1mm was recommended for the standard plug so i would guess it would be the same for uprated plugs plus if your running higher boost than normal you will need a fatter spark to cope with the higher combustion temps/pressure.[H][H]
leon Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 might be 0.9 maybe but i cant remeber bigger gap = more likely higher boost will blow the spark out, search scoobynet or search sidc i did my sparks a while back
paul_eggerton Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 It also depends on your coil packs how good they are. If you are running more than std boost ei 1.4 bar you need a smaller gap normally about .8mm if your coils are ok if they are old then you may get a misfire on boost in which case you make the gap about .5mm but this can cause a rough idle.
Montythegod Posted March 21, 2006 Author Posted March 21, 2006 Thanks for your responses... in the SIDC FAQ it states 1.0 - 1.1 mm for standard ones... here > I've read that you cannot adjust iridium plugs for fear of snapping the electrode.... mine are pre gapped at 0.7mm I have a 1998 UK spec with the coil pack at the top on the inlet manifold. Back in the days of my cosworth, the higher the boost, the bigger the gap and the bigger the coil.... but my coil pack is all integrated...... hence my dilema
granby Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 My uprated plugs were pre gapped at 0.7 and it runs fine [Y]
Jolly Green Monster Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 0.7mm should be about right.. the 1~1.1mm is wrong and a mistake.. orginal plug gaps are 0.8mm. You might find it will run better on NGK PFR7B's Monty at 0.7~0.8mm but try the ones you have now you have them. Simon
