derek_pettigrew Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Can anyone explain to me what a remap is also I have bought a 03 WRX and I have been trying to find out what the BHP on it is as far as I am aware there are no mods on it with the exception of the tail pipe which says STI on it. Im new on the block and some of the technical chat is going way over my head a begginers huide to mods and your scooby would be a good help or a glossary even
st3ph3n Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 A remap is basically when a mad scientiest with a crazy set of headphones and a laptop wires themselves up to your car and tinkers with the car's ECU (Engine Control Unit) to make the car faster. The ECU will have an "engine map" programmed into it which will control how the engine works. He/she will "remap" the ECU by providing it with a map which should free up more performance in the engine. With his/her funky headphones (det cans) he will listen to the engine and with his/her laptop he/she will make adjustments to the finer points of this map before unplugging themselves and letting you drive off into the distance at warp factor 11. derek_pettigrew Posted March 17, 2006 Author Posted March 17, 2006 Cheers mate I got to start somewhere with all this Jargon late starter but better late than never
Fee Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Every car will have a 'book' bhp....but always best to get it on the rollers to test it.... If I am correct...there is a rolling road day this weekend....check out the events bit
st3ph3n Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 It's a great place to learn as there's always someone that's up to something exciting, and there's plenty of people around to explain the technical aspects of whats going on. I certainly can't claim to be an expert when it comes to the technical side of car modifications, but I know a damn sight more today than I did when I bought the car. And my wallet is a damn sight lighter too!
derek_pettigrew Posted March 17, 2006 Author Posted March 17, 2006 Ill get to a rolling road event at some point my mates joined a classic car club and is bringing down a cobra this weekend to wipe the Ive got a shiny new car smile of my face.
