SirFozzalot Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Hi guys. I am venturing North of the Border soon and will be staying near Loch Lomond for a week. Is there any recommendations for things to do or places to see.......including any must drive roads?? [] Thanks in advance! []
st3ph3n Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 There's some fantastic roads round there. The Glasgow meetr took a trip on some of them a few weeks ago and they were great fun. I can't remember what the 1 great road in particular was as it was dark and I was too busy concentrating on the cars in front. Things to do - Helensburgh for a quality Fish Supper. You're not far from Glasgow for a visit to thee finest city on earth. Duck Bay Marina at Loch Lomond. Very s****y. There's plenty of things to do, and great roads to drive to get to those places.
JK JDMSTi Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Drive up A82 to Tarbet then on A83 to Arrochar and for some white knuckle driving when you get to Arrochar follow the sign for Garelochead at the Arrochar Hotel. Its a bit of a narrow and twisty roller coaster best driven in the dark (so you know when you are likely to meet other cars). When you get to the roundabout just before Garelochead take a left then a left at the next roundabout about a mile further on. This will take you on the 'haul road' back to Loch Lomond, this road is much faster although there are a couple of slow corners to watch out for. For a higher speed drive when you get to Arrochar head towards Inverary then Tarbert (note the 'r'). Its a cracking fast drive although be aware that this road is often patrolled by Strathclydes finest in daylight hours. Enjoy.
ANDYJDMSTI Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 . Duck Bay Marina at Loch Lomond. Very s****y. Eh??.........You must have low standards if you think it is s****y. [] Or is it just my mistake and it is a silent "s" in s****y?? []
Fee Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 funny....me and adam were going to have a couple of nights away somewhere and were thinking about a night near loch lomond. Anyone know of any nice hotels / B&Bs that look onto the loch?
st3ph3n Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 I've never been in it Andy, it just looked s****y and I heard it was. I was going to take my good lady up there when she came to visit but I may have to rethink that.
ANDYJDMSTI Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Fee, if you want to stay somewhere nice then try The Lodge on the Loch. Got rooms that overlook the Loch. St3ph3n, For a nice meal go into Balloch, head towards Loch lomond shores, when you get to the mini roundabout take the exit after the LLS one and about 500m down the road on the left is a restaurant called La Scarpetta...............very nice italian!!! []
Gumball Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 you need to go to the Lodge on the Loch for a good meal and maybe a stay overnight, very nice. drive up the side of loch lomond then over the garelochead road to arochar, then up towards invararay or maybe oban for some good roads. Glen coe is another fantastic locartion you need to go to. The duck gay marina is a pile of horse toffee[]
JK JDMSTi Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 If you want a room with a view you should stay at The Lodge on Loch Lomond. This is situated at Luss. Some of the rooms have saunas . . . . just enough space for two . . . . www.loch-lomond.co.uk Duck Bay was s****y . . . . . in the late 80's
Fee Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 I'm just looking at it now....wow...it looks so nice! Its my birthday weekend / very belated valentines weekend...so I deserve a special treat! hehe
st3ph3n Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 LOL. If Adam is imaginary then it will be a lonely weekend Fee. The Lodge looks great. Wonder if she'd let me go out on the quad bikes.
SirFozzalot Posted March 17, 2006 Author Posted March 17, 2006 Thanks for the replies. Looking forward to going. []
