p1ggm Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 just a couple of questions 1, wrapped or jet coated? 2 flexi or solid up pipe? ta in advance
oz *sti* Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 I have megan headers that are a all in one unit header and up pipe with a flexi joint at the up pipe wrapped mine they work great for me, not the techie minded [:$] so could not tell you whats the best or if there will be any performance difference's at all. I sure the more techie minded guys will be along soon and should be able the advise further []
drb5 Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Wrapped and solid. Ok you may need to re-wrap in the future, but your a bit stuffed if and when the jet coating comes off and end up wrapping anyways. Soild, as you don't need to worry about the flexi breaking up. Less restrictions in flow, too.
irish al Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Solid with expansion joints in both the headers and uppipe. Make sure the expansion joints work when you put them on as mine probably didnt and they ended up cracking at the flange. Dropped my heatwrap in a bucket of water this time before wraping and it was much easier with less loose fibers. Also gets tighter when it dries out. Al
p1ggm Posted March 17, 2006 Author Posted March 17, 2006 been looking at a set from flat 4 that i might go for, athou i could get a cheap set from the US but they might be poor quality. anywhere cheap for heat wrap, and how much will i need? ta again
p1ggm Posted March 17, 2006 Author Posted March 17, 2006 i am selling some, but not performance parts
fai17 Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 I got the Gruppe S header and i think they are not bad...great performance and noise is out this world plus your car will be quieter at idle and loud as feck when giving it some.
p1ggm Posted March 19, 2006 Author Posted March 19, 2006 its the gruppe s ones on fllat four i m looking at, if i get the un coated ones how much heat wrap would i need, as its only an extra 25 quid for the coated
irish al Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 Found these at a good price when I was looking before http://www.drmotorsport.co.uk/New%20-%20New%20Products.htm

wilky Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 Coated headers are very expensive, the only coating worth considering is ceramic and that is very expensive indeed, over 800 last I looked. 100 will see them wrapped properly with proper lagging. Flexi joint IMHO. You need a bit of give, Ive seen the solid HKS ones crack and Ive seen crap fexijoint blow after only a few thousand miles so do your research. Callum W
