The future of the gearbox

We've got some technical minded peopel here who aren't opposed to a bit of progress and change.

What's the opinion on the VeeDub's DSG? The future, a fad, a bad thing?

Not being byist as I work for VW but the DSG is good box.  Its actualy a manual gear box that acts like an auto and if you get a sporty model you get the F1 style paddles on the steering wheel.

The new Veryon has a DSG box in it (As VW own Buggati)

i like your choice of topics stephen although i do think modding YOUR car and less concern over sh:@t mobiles would be progression with a purpose[:D]

Haha. UP YOURS CHILDREN!

Serious discussion though. I HATE automatics. The closest I've ever came to killing myself on the road was at low-ish speed in a C180 merc because the kick down unsettled the car as it went off power, then sent the back end out in all sorts of crazy directions when the power came back on.

But the more I read about the DSG the more I think "Yeah, that sounds like the future".

Have a read at this - http://www.autoblog.com/2006/03/07/editori...mission-debate/

I do think it is prolly the future, appreciate the engineering behind it but......

Don't think it has the same driver appeal as a true manual, its not all about speed you know!
