Dont know about prices but a 1999 ST5 Type RA V-lim can be had for 14K ish. For 10K I would expect it to be immaculate. the mileage is good but I would want to see a full service history i.e. a service every 6 months.

The type Rs and RAs are not like any other scoob. They have close ratio boxes which means they rev higher at motorway speeds which can be annoying. I hate taking mine on a motorway but it loves twisty back roads. Mine is a Version 6 and is geared at 20mph/1000rpm in 5th (i.e. 1000rpm=20mph, 2000rpm=40mph,3000rpm=60mph etc.) the earlier RA were lower than that some were 17mph/1000rpm.

For this reason they dont suit everyone. I dont use my a daily driver and use it when the weather is good and at nights and weekends.

The good news is they are the fastest "straight out of the box scoob" people will tell you the Type R is but the type R is normally a bit heavier (but not much in it but the RA are still quicker face-icon-small-wink.gif ).

As for modding, I have just done a panel filter and centre and backbox and beleive me its loud enough (very little sound proofing on the RAs). Its plenty quick enough

My advice it drive it as they really dont suit everyone and haggle hard and check out autotrader and see how much other are going for.

May also be worth getting a scoob specialist to give it the once over as part are expensive if they go wrong.

The only other issue is fuel I run mine on optimax and octane booster. If you cant get either easy they seriously consider not buying one. Again because I do I low mileage it doesnt really bother me but my RA does about 17mpg which emans you are looking to fill every 200 miles. The octane booster problem can be removed by a remap which is what I have consider on mine just to make life easier. Also may free up a few more horses. DONT fully decat without a remap as the imports dont like it and a rebuild is going to cost you big time ('000s of £).

Get an insurnace quote as this may put you off as well face-icon-small-wink.gif. Mine is double what a UK turbo (with the same mods) would cost me and that with full no claims and over 30.

hope this helps
