chris_c201 Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 Alrighty Folks, After recently getting stopped for speeding (taking me to 6 points) i'm thinking about investing in a detector.... Thinking of one of the following..... Road Angel Classic Snooper S2 Snooper S5-R Obviously going on my options i'm looking for a budget option (especially as i jus lost £60!).... Anyone using the above / got any other suggestions? I was thinking of mounting it where the clock is and taking a power feed from behind the stereo (back of the cigarette lighter) any alternatives..... Cheers Chris
st3ph3n Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 The Road Angel Classic is not a radar detector for a start. Radar detectors are largely useless these days given that most police forces are moving to laser, and that most speeding detection is done via the fixed and mobile cameras anyway. You want/need a GPS based device for pointing out cameras and popular mobile locations. Such as the Road Angel Classic et al. I'm personally using the Classic and I love it. It's discontinued now though I think. Laser detection is largely not worth the paper it's written on unless you wire it up to your garage door openner. Nudge nudge. Wink wink. I know there's some people here using the origin B2, and it looks a nice bit of kit it must be said. The new more compact road angels are good too. You could of course go for TomTom Sat Nav and download the speed camera database for that. My mate certainly uses that with great success.
chris_c201 Posted February 27, 2006 Author Posted February 27, 2006 Yeh sorry, Radar Detector is just an "old term" for the general device i'm talking about.......
Gumball Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 a lot of people would spend money on the latest greatest which is good. i use a road angel, the last one not the newest and that alerts you to all the cameras 500metres before you get to them, accident black spots, schools and mobile lasers. works well. Then what you need is a jammer behind your grille and that way they send the laser to see you at 80, 90.....and the jammers sends it back to them showing an error code on their gun. the alarm pings in your cockpit and you then have a few seconds to slow down before they fire it at you again. now your doing 70. about 400 online and an electronics mob anywhere will fit it for you .
bigdavie Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 ive got a snooper s2 and up until a few weeks ago thought it was great !! especially as it only cost 70 quid alerted you to everything specs gatso the lot it even detected an unmarked black bugeye on the a737 couple of nights ago sittin @ a roundabout wi their lights off !!!!! the only gripe i have is that it wont pick up the gatsos on the airport overpass @ glasgow even after an update ??!! so i dont know if the cameras are dummys or wether snooper even knows about them ??!! hth !
chris_c201 Posted February 28, 2006 Author Posted February 28, 2006 I was looking at the S2, very cheap!! Is it GPS based, looked at so many i'm confused now... if so do you have to subscribe to update? Was the unmarked car using a laser detector? Do you have yours hardwired? Just one twelve volt lead i take it? Cheers Chris
