irish al Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 After the success the police had getting £30 out of me with Part 1 for a dirty number plate they must have decided to release part two, and thats exactly what they did. Pulled me in for a "routine check", so he says anyway. Goes round the back of the car and his bumchum gets out a 15cm ruler. What the hell are they up to I ask myself. Comes back round, Sir, do you realise your rear number plate is illegal. Sorry officer, I didnt realise that, I just bought them on the net. What could I say as he new I was going to lie before I opened my mouth. What rolled out of his mouth next took the biscut - "I am afraid I am going to have to give you a fixed penalty of £30". Ok Officer I said - "Thats fine Sir but I also have to give you a fixed penalty of £30 for your front number plate as well" I couldnt believe what he had just said. He then proceded to caution me once for the front plate and once for the rear plate. Didnt check anything else on the car, not even the tax disc. Wasnt much of a "routine check" Can thay charge me for both plates and is there any way to get out of this ??
fai17 Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 HHHmmmmm i'll ask my polis friend tomorrow and will let you know.
AlanG Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 Can they charge you for both plates? I think it's possible as they can charge you fine / points per tyre..
4Hero Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 What a bunch of pains in the bum. A caution would have been nice. Sorry to hear that mate []
ed-209 Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 It depends on what they did you for, was it the typeface of the plate or the spacing. If your car is an import then different rules apply on spacing you are allowed a smaller plate. if it's not one of the approved typefaces then sorry your done. I had a JDM wagon with a small plate, it was smaller than a motorbike plate and it was legal. You should be able to look up the rules on, I found this one with a quick search as it's by the police for the police Hope you find a little loop hole.
vicki Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Nightmare, but I think you can get done for each plate [] I have ordered two new plates from fancyplates.com and they will be here on Monday. They have subaru on them []
G.T. Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 did you have www.scottishscoobies.co.uk on them aswell al dont you just hate the polis
irish al Posted February 26, 2006 Author Posted February 26, 2006 Am sure it was for the letter spacing, they never mentioned the typeface. Yes www.scottishscoobies.co.uk is at the bottom. Iam not pissed off because I know they are illegal but giving me two tickets was a bit much.
ian_finlayson Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Perhaps I'm not themost clued up but whats wrong with the plate, is the 52 or whatever misplaced because as far as I can see there isn't much wrong with that. Can someone explain
4Hero Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 You know you would be better actually comitting a crime, you would get off with it then. What's the UK coming too...
lescazscoob Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 hello al i have spoken to the fife police traffic liason officer and its not good im affraid heres what he said: yes you can get a ticket for each offence. Two plates, two tickets. same with blown bulbs. You could get charged with each offence. Number plates or the characters on them are quite cut and dry. Its either right and got a BS no or its not. They're are plenty of previous posts on the topic if you want to check whats right and wrong. cheers PC NB sorry i couldnt bring you good news mate
