andrew_lally Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 having a few problems on my MY95 wrx import....the syptoms seem to expressing itself as a slight hesitation, bogging down feeling, then it clears and we are off again!!! when really moving it will repeat itself 3-4 times in a row i have done a full de-cat zaust, k+n induction, 255 fuel pump and fse boost valve to up the fueling over standard im assuming the increased level of boost is triggering the fuel cut defnder (but not really sure) has anyone else experienced this problem??? i have seen various electronic devices that claim to raise this limit, are they any good Also i have bought an apexi AVCR boost controller(not fitted), will this cure the problem???? any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!!! regards andy............
dougster Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Hitting the fuel cut slams you forward. If you have stuttering at lower revs could your plugs need replaced?
Bladerider Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Hitting fuel cut could be likened to hitting a brick wall but without the damaged front. What you're experiencing discribes exactly what used to happen to mine. I tried loads of things. It sort of went away after I started using NF octane booster, but it came back again. It disappeared completely after I changed my ECU to a Z4.
wilky Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 I had this, and it is the most unlikely thing you could imagine. Take your coil packs off the plugs, roll the rubber back and check the coilpacks one at a time. Overtightening the coil pack once it is on the head compresses it against the top of the plug and cracks the lip of the coilpack. A hairline fracture or crack will cause the hesitation you describe. Its 50 bucks a coilpack however so 200 frogskins a full set, but if this is the problem its a good inverstment and remember, just nip them dont tighten them like they are going to have to operate at 50 fathoms, it cracks them. Callum W Like the boys said, fuelcut is like sudden loss of all power and forward motion and there would be no doubt in your mind that had happened.
IanJ Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Yip another vote for plugs or coil packs. My last WRX started to do it very occasionally. I changed the plugs and it was all good. Ian
andrew_lally Posted February 15, 2006 Author Posted February 15, 2006 New plugs and all coil packs have been checked....the hessitation is at high revs...not unlike hitting a brick wall, then returns to normal. initial full boost spikes to 1.2 bar sometimes, then settles down to 1.05bar ish....seems to happen if the boost goes to 1.2bar ish whats the verdict, gotta be fuel cut defender???? help hahaha regards andy.....
dougster Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Could be a combination of spiking and boost creep?
Edinburgh-Chris Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Hi Mate, i have encountered the dreaded fuel cut on the ECU and to be honest.......you know when its occured. If your thoughts behind the phrase "Slight Hesitation" are you instantly loose power and the car feels like an elephant has just jumped in your back seat then yes fuel cut is your problem. One thing to not though mate, 1.2bar in an early classis without a remap is suicide! Get the AVC-R on and set it to something around 1Bar max. Then go and buy a "Knock link" for around the £120 mark. Have you checked to see what ECU you are running with at the moment? Front passenger side, under the carpet, remove the metal kickplate and have a swatch! Chris
andrew_lally Posted February 15, 2006 Author Posted February 15, 2006 Running Z4 ecu....boost only peeks at 1.2bar....seems to drop and hold at approximately 1.05bar since i stuck the FMIC on got the fuelling through th roof at the moment (0.5bar above standard) till i sort it out....so leaning out aint gonna be a prob!! just want it to rev clean and crisp again....lol regards andy
Edinburgh-Chris Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Fair play mate, just watch out for Bore-wash though! I purchased and installed an Aquamist water injection kit as apposed to playing about with the fuel regulator. I also noticed the difference once i installed the front mount intercooler but again, going rich is just as bad as going lean........be careful, the early classics are secretly know for having internals manufactured by cadbury's! Chris
johnnyr6 Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Is there a chip (scoobyecu or equivalent) in your ecu? If not then you shouldn't be peaking 1.2 bar then holding 1.05 (this is about scoobyecu settings). You should be peaking just over 1 bar and holding 0.9 bar. Some of the newer classics (my99, 00) cars may get an increase in boost with a decat but a my95 shouldn't. What boost gauge do you use as it could be under or over reading slightly. Check plugs, coilpacks etc. Also try holding boost at about 1 bar and see if it still does it. If it is fuel cut you can fit the avcr and control the boost with it.
