fraser_drinkwater Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 Do's a set of classic headers fit on a bugeye. what headers can handle the most power? or is porting a better idea?
wilky Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 Porting = torque but will not give you top end like headers. Harvey can port for you at a price. Classic headers should fit a bugeye, the best seem to be ones with a flexijoint on the uppipe to stop it cracking. GT spec are known to crack, gruppe S have a flexijoint. Its down to personal preference, Some say HKS, but I have seen them crack, they have no flexijoint. I bought the ones on the falcon from SS autochrome in the USA and shipped them over. They had a flexi joint. Zerosport ones are very sturdy but like hens teeth. Then you have the issue of equal or unequal length. Keep burble or lose burble. and so it goes on......
Gumball Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 ported GT spec (wrapped) work nicely for the deathstar
andrew_duff Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Swiggi , Ive got Hks headers (equal length) fully wrapped on my motor . Seem to do the business torque wise , downside is the lack of burble . Upside is the mental noise on full tilt , if you know what i mean Andy.
Johnny50 Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 I also used HKS headers on my last wagon. Only trouble was, i also fitted a large bore up-pipe at the same time, so lost a lot of the benefit that the headers would`ve given me. I loved the noise they made too. Only downside was, they werent cheap. This time round, i`ll be opting for porting my standard ones.
irish al Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Is there not a problem with the possibility of the flexi on headers blowing out when you up the power, thats what i was told anyway.
Johnny50 Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 I think certain makes have been prone to blowing....unsure of which ones though.
IanJ Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Dunno what scrappy my old car is in but it's got equal length manifolds on it. The new owner is currently in negotiation with his insurance company for a payout. He lives near Alloa. Keep an eye out for a red 95 wrx wagon in the scrappies. It's got lots of goodies!
Johnny50 Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 You`re kidding ? Might be worth looking for...
IanJ Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Nope.....he was on the road for only a few weeks before stuffing it. Early sti intercooler Refurbed calipers and new discs/pads all round Magnex downpipe scoobysport centre and backbox. Low miles well maintained engine and box mint interior my00 wheels momo wheel, pedals and gearknob Dunno what damage he did to it But definately worth finding (If i hear anything i'll post up)
fai17 Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 I think they are all the same(classic and newage). It's the downpipe back which is different between the cars. WUZ has a set of GT spec headers for sale BTW. I've got Gruppe S Header and XS Power Up pipe with flexy and i am over the moon with them after all the leaky issues is fixed. I got the Gruppe S because Coulty told me they were better than others. So yous know now. I would recommend changing your headers if you are looking for mor power but like eveyone has said you loss some of the burble but not all if you get the semi egual one like mines and the thinking goes on.(tick tock tick tock)
sma01 Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 got HKS ones on mine mate, had them on my bugeye also and thought they were very good, and have never had any problems......
