imprezyou Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 Is there a fuse for the fuel pump? If not, where's the relay for it exactly? Story so far: Car was running fine all day (UK MY99); parked up yesterday, then it wouldn't restart when I went to use it a few hours later. It just turned over & over with no sign of firing. Now this morning nothing it wont start and no sign of the pump priming, pumps only 9mths old so surely it cant be that? Multimeter shows no power going to the pump with the ignition on - am I missing something, because I don't think there's a fuse for the pump? I guess it could be the relay (which is presumably somewhere behind the dash?) - As always, all helpful pointers appreciated! Cheers, paul
SCOOBYTOO Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 paulhave you checked for the live feed to the pump when you CRANK the engine? also is the EARTH ok??
leon Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 there shouldbe a fuse either in the front enginebay fuse box or the 1 under the dash
imprezyou Posted November 19, 2005 Author Posted November 19, 2005 Ok guys i have checked that there is no power to the pump when turning on the ignition,i have checked that the pump works fine, all fuses in side and outside are all ok, i have found what i think is the fuel pump relay and that all seems ok, so where the heck do i go from here???????????????????????????????? all out of ideas. Anyone!!!!!
Deano 666 Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 do you have an imobiliser? does your car lock and un lock on the alarm thob?
j-k Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 We had this problem with our rally car.. All the igntion lights were on etc, car would turn over no problem, but the pump would not run... I checked all of the fuses cos we didnt know if one was a fuel pump fuse(written in jap), but all were good. After pulling the pump out and checking it also , we did some more head scratching... Well the problem turned out to be ...... ARRON HAD FORGOTTEN TO PUT THE ECU BACK IN!!!!! Have to laugh about it now though... jon
imprezyou Posted November 19, 2005 Author Posted November 19, 2005 Wel belive me it has got an ecu fitted ..............................and deano yeh its does have the factory immobilizer and alarm fitted, it locks and unlocks ok.
Deano 666 Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 have you been shopping and put your car keys down on the counter where thay have a magnetic secerity strip like at boots, these can wipe out key codded ignition system and provent your car from starting. or try disconnecting your battery, and put your foot on brake pedal to drain down the power to your ecu, leave for one hour, then re connect battery, this should clear any faults with the ecu, try to restart you engine. try these, hope it helps
imprezyou Posted November 19, 2005 Author Posted November 19, 2005 I have a secs data monitor and have already done a ecu reset via that. No fault codes showing on the monitor.
imprezyou Posted November 19, 2005 Author Posted November 19, 2005 the doors etc are locking ok using the fob.
imprezyou Posted November 19, 2005 Author Posted November 19, 2005 just tried it and no goooo it didnt work either.
Deano 666 Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 the other thing, it happens to me in a few places, where there is strong radio waves ie.. police or fire stations, or near phone masts, try pushing the car down the road slightly, incase your imobiliser signal is being blocked.
imprezyou Posted November 19, 2005 Author Posted November 19, 2005 cant risk doing that , live on a busy road and temp traffic lights out front, and i`m not going to be able to push it back if it dont work. It was playing up yesterday in a totally differant area and its never played up at home ever. So the saga continues..............
j-k Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 << temp traffic lights out front, . >> Have the temp lights got a radar on top, to detect on coming traffic??? it could be that interfering with your alarm transmitter!! jon
imprezyou Posted November 19, 2005 Author Posted November 19, 2005 think so but the lights have been there for 6 weeks now, so cant see it being that, like i said before it done it yesterday somewhere totally differant, but started, it runn but was missing really badly after a few attempts of trying to start it.
granby Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 << think so but the lights have been there for 6 weeks now, so cant see it being that, like i said before it done it yesterday somewhere totally differant, but started, it runn but was missing really badly after a few attempts of trying to start it. >> Could it possibly be the coilpacks!!!
melvyn_poolman Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 I read that you have tried a different fob. What about a different key? the key has a chip in it,if its not recognised by the ecu the ecu will shut the fuel pump down.If thet doesnt work check that you have a live out put from the relay which is one of the three above the interior fuse box.If you have then do a continuity check with the multi-metre on that wire from relay to fuel pump. The older model had a pulg in the fuel pump wiring under the rear seat which was known to burn out.Its always worth a look
imprezyou Posted November 20, 2005 Author Posted November 20, 2005 There is power at the relay but beyond there nothing, i dont have a spare key so it looks like its off to subaru monday i think thats if anyone else can help that is.....please please pretty please
leon Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 by pass the relay and connec the pump straight to the battery or the other way is check the spark plugs to see if there damp if it is then its a ignition electrical problem if there dry its fuel problem!
Deano 666 Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 undo the fuel inlet pipe on your fuel filter, turn engine over with key, any fuel? if there is, pull a spark plug out, plug it in to the ht lead. rest it on a good source of earth, get someone to turn engine over, and check for spark,

Deano 666 Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 ok wait for the fuel to evaporate, then check for spark. doing the easy first,
