They say bad luck comes in 3's well now I know it's true.

1.. Fixing a customers PC just starting to screw the PC back together and Bang PSU explodes grounding through the case (which I am holding at the time.) face-icon-small-shocked.gif thank god for RCD's

2.. puting in a backing plate on another customers pc and slices my finger.face-icon-small-mad.gif

3.. Driving to my next job when I runs into the back of a Audi S3 which had stopped at the other side of traffic lights. No major damage to both but did in radiator on my poor little cdti corsa. face-icon-small-blush.gif

PSU = Power Supply Unit, which is what converts the wall power into something your PC components can use.

RCD, not entirely sure. Possibly something like Residual Current. Probably a wrist strap that grounded ed so that if the unthinkable happened he wouldn't be electrocuted.

Sorry if it was a bit technical.

PSU = Power Supply Unit, which converts 230 volts to lower voltages that pc componants can use.

RCD = Residual Current Device which detects milliampage leakage to ground and cuts the power. most modern house fuses boxes have it built into them now thank god.

The wrist strap is part of the anti static kit which we don't use when working with mains voltages as it would help kill you if anything goes wrong.

I stand corrected Ed.

As an IT man myself any hardware dabbling involves no safety measureas at all. Infact I like to rub my feet on the carpet repeatedly to build up static electricity just to make things interesting.
