scientific steve Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 just remembered that i need to get a chip sorted in my windscreen before i get my mot next week so i thought i'd phone up those chaps you see on the telly, autoglass, just as well i was sitting down at the time, 70 quid to sort out a chip i thought about letting a few seagulls crap on the car to cover it up and save myself the 70 pounds, but i cant do that to the paintwork anybody got any better ideas or do i just have to fork out me mulla to these robbers ? shocked and bemused steve
SEEVERS Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Steve,if you are fully comp insured Autoglass should do the job for free through your insurance.. Del.
scientific steve Posted November 9, 2005 Author Posted November 9, 2005 i had thought about that but i werent sure about excess and all that stuff i'll have to remember to check up on that when i get back cheers steve
chris_c201 Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 I think if its a repair the excess doesn't apply, If you get a new windscreen its a £50 excess usually, Anyone had a chip repaired before, if so does it leave the mark although it feels smooth or should it be completely invisible after the repair? Thanks Chris.
West R X Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 I had a chip repaired on my Honda CRX (Free of charge on the Insurance) - amazing couldn't tell where the chip was before!!
peter_macgowan Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Had a chips done before. Check with your Insurer. Im with elephant and they dont deal with Autoglass they deal with RAC Windscreen repair. £70 I think is the standard fee for a chip but you can get it done through insurance free or for £50 it depends. Visibilty of the repair depends on the chip. Ive had one that was a small chip they injected resin and you could hardly see it. On the other hand Ive had a chip that was almost cracked right through - black hairline. They repaired that but can still see it. Not as bad but you know its there.
scientific steve Posted November 9, 2005 Author Posted November 9, 2005 thanks for that info guys, i'll just have to wait till i get me airse back into aberdeen before i can have a shuftie at the paperwork the chip is right in the drivers eye line, so i hope that this repair is as good as you guys say it is cheers steve
chrissy Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 i know the feeling lol they just quoted me 340 quid for a windscreen for muy saxo
scientific steve Posted November 9, 2005 Author Posted November 9, 2005 christ!! thats a bit steep init? any chance of getting one from a scrappy or something? i'm glad i've just got a wee chip
