Number plates

Here is a story concerning car plates.

My mate at work got a speeding ticket through the post, it said he was in Swansea doing 38 in a 30 limit and had been fined bla de bla.

Only thing was he was never in Swansea on the date in question his car was in a garage getting fixed.

So he phoned to tell the contact on the letter, they asked for his car details, he told them the car, colour and type it seems it was different car caught that date, not even same model.

So fine scrubbed.

But being wee nosey sods we did some digging amongst friends in the police and asked them if this was common.

The reply scared me, it seems its rife in bike cirlcles and as a fine its usually a warning or a £40 fine, no points. The usual excuse is that the dafty in Halfruads must made a mistake in one digit and I never noticed it officer, thanks for bringing it to my attention.

you think he makes a mistake?

i have had my cars cloned twice now.

people clock your plate and then copy it so they can use it on their stolen car. either the same model if their clever or a different model if they dont care.

all you can do is deny it. i had the police to my door about 7 times in 2003.
