dougster Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Looking at the stage times is this for the hardcore only? I have full camping gear and access to a new transit van. I have never been, but happy to discuss the possibilities and costs involved.
Guest Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 dougster, you will enjoy ... lots of black coffee required to keep you awake. i was there a few years back helping out as recovery at the end of the stages .... strange places cars fly to on mull!! ... the beach, rivers. fun getting them out.
clan2_uk Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 I recommend this rally, I marshalled on it eight years in a row. Some people go camping but I always went for a comfy B & B in Tobermory booked a year in advance, the weather can be wild sometimes I've seen snow blizzards twice (yes in October). Half the fun is taking your own car as the single track roads are fantastic some scary drops at the side of the road right enough. Spectating is good on the Saturday daytime as they usually run the stages twice, although you need to take in some of the night stages as some of the commitment you see is unbelievable. Remember these roads are not exactly smooth so 75% of the time the cars spotlights are lighting up the sky ! I've not been since my family expanded but maybe next year.
ScoobyAndy Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 I marshalled at Mull last year too. Absolutely fantastic, especially if you dont like sleep. Ask Keap Scooby said cars do end up in some very very strange places.... i.e the mini cooper that decided it fancied a swim last year on the sat night Go and enjoy, find some sort of accomodation though
corsa Posted October 9, 2005 Posted October 9, 2005 Heading up Friday night to catch the first stage at 10 ish then chase the rally till the last car finishes, always a good bit of banter with the rally boys on Dervaig hill on saturday at the hairpin. Ardtun at the bottom end of the island later on for the parrty.
craigdmcd Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 Me and classicwagon are heading up on Friday, probably leaving at 14.00 from Glasgow. Will head up Loch Lomondside to the Corran ferry (just south of Fort William) and then down to Lochaline to Fishnish Ferry. It's a far better drive this way, don't particularly like being on boats, so 2 small trips is better than 1 big trip from Oban. Anyone wanting to make a convoy is more than welcome to join in. Sleeping in the Legacy with the back seats down, so not worrying about accomodation, just whether we can carry enough deodorant to last till Sunday morning.
corsa Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Thats me all set for the 2pm ferry Friday, leaving Helensburgh about 12 ish. Looks like the weather is going to be as good as last year. Great entry list and a great weekend to look forward to. Davie. Pics will be of course be online next week at some point.
ed-209 Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 Having been upto Oban 3 days on a trot, I took the scooby today, to everyone in scoobies I saw in both directions "HELLO" also saw a lot of evos most of who flashed and waved. I think there must be something happening up that way??? Ed
Guest Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 after a late decision to head to Mull for the the rally,a great weekend was had. as soon as we arrived and picked our spot on the griblin stage(sat pm)we were approched by a guy in a subaru bunnet(CORSA)its a small world. thanks davie for the programme and info on where to head for sat night.went to mishnish lochs. look forward to seeing the pics only downside was on waiting for ferry(fishnish to lochaline on sunday),a seeing a recovery vehicle with a rolled dark blue wagon on the back.not a rally car reg was J * NLS. anyone know whos it is? would be good to hear if drivers/passengers were OK cheers graham
corsa Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 They were playing on the glen road just prior to the stage start and with the help of the doctor and rescue units on duty on that stage they were all ok but they did have a lot of explaining to do to the traffics that night. And no doubt their insurance company. Not the sort of thing that is wise when we are all trying to encourage closed road rallying.
craigdmcd Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 Graham, thanks for the well wishes, it is appreciated. Corsa, the Police, Insurance and Rescue Services were all very understanding. For your information, Myself and Chris have competed in both Navigational Road Rallies and National Karting events, so competing has been tried. Chris was caught out on an Island that is notorious for it's nasty roads, (66 starters on the Saturday night compared to 160 on Friday night), and was pushing a lot less than if he had been out on an SIDC run, and am sure in a manner that you have gone harder in, on any of your own road cars. We were going to come and find you to wish you well on the rally, to be honest, I for one am glad I didn't. At least everyone else has shown a little more compasion. If anyone has the right to bear resentment to Chris, it's me( and I don't), for placing me in a near death situation, but even I can understand that accidents happen. Craig
