pedals Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 Looking for some advice. The nearest shell petrol station to me is glasgow airport or erskine, both of which are about a 25 mile drive. So to get optimax, i either have to use a quarter tank to get there and back or plan all my activities around trips to that neck of the woods. Now, there are loads of BP stations around my bit, would using BP ultimate with octane booster be an equall for optimax? Am i right in saying ultimate is 97RON? This has probably been asked loads of times, but any advice would be great cheers pedals
CAZ1562 Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 yip BP ultimate is 97RON, I used it all the time but I was a little biased towards BP. Its just SUL but with additives to clean the engine & environment in it.
BriWRX Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 If you need to find Optimax then use the shell station finder and type in the address you need and it will show you all the available stations nearest to you, try this link, optimax finder
harvey_smith Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 Use BP Ultimate, with or without NF and have your car mapped on whatever you decide to run on permanently. The higher the octane the more the ignition advance that can be safely run without DET. DET kills engines and ignition advance makes power so you need maximum advance with no DET in the simplest of terms.
sma01 Posted October 5, 2005 Posted October 5, 2005 have asked about fuel before mate, and the advice i got from the guys who do ecu remaps(not sure i am allowed to name names but they will be familiar to most people), is that it is best to avoid using bp ultimate fuel.....
AlanG Posted October 5, 2005 Posted October 5, 2005 Strange about the BP Ultimate thing. I prefer BP over the other companies. Don't really know why having thought about it, but seems to be smoother running with it, but that could all be in my mind. What i don't like is their pricing.. What sort of area are you in? I may be able to help if you haven't already used the fnder.
pedals Posted October 6, 2005 Author Posted October 6, 2005 Alan, im just outside Greenock. Cheers, but I dont need to use the finder because i know that the nearest shell station is 25 or so miles away. That is my problem, i would prefer to use optimax but with the nearest shell station being so far away it costs me to drive there and back just to fill up. cheers for the replies guys pedals
AlanG Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 Yep, nearest one i can think of is Erskine. That's a bit of a pisser..
harvey_smith Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 Interested to know where the Optimax/Shell is near Eyemouth. Thanks. PS. Running North I usually have Berwick on Tweed, Messelburgh, Dreghorn or just before the Forth Bridge.
dipsy Posted October 8, 2005 Posted October 8, 2005 Harvey has two classic wagons a very powerfull sti and i think wrx with 400bhp the sti is running more .Saw the wrx in scooby mag at the dastek rolling road and the sit wagon was in jap performance last year with near 600bhp but i think he was going for more power changing the engine spec
harvey_smith Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 Not guilty on this occassion Silver WRX Wagon M/Y 95 with around 400 bhp depending on map. Silver STi Wagon M/Y 00 which I hope will do 600 plus BHP on 2 litres when I eventually get on to developing it. Engine running, Motec installed but had no gears on start up. Long story but I need a different transfer casing. Regularly up the A1/A68/Dalkeith and less frequently further North or West.
