andrew_field Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Dave, I have found this project for you to do. Should have it done in a few days Impreza Car PC
graeme_stuart Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Sounds easy to me.............not!!! Dave will do that in about an hour.
Cret Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 There's a guy on my forum who's building an in car PC that fits in a double DIN size stereo unit he's getting made at the moment with a touchscreen interface. Don't think he has much left to do either! Lum's in car PC
andrew_field Posted September 27, 2005 Author Posted September 27, 2005 To sound a little sad, I have all the parts in the house for my carPC but never got round to putting it in the Scooby yet.
Cret Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Nowt sad about it Andy - I'd love to do one like Lum is building! Is yours an in dash one or spread across the car? If I had a few quid spare I think it'd be great - especially with wifi so you really could go war driving!
andrew_field Posted September 27, 2005 Author Posted September 27, 2005 It is a laptop for the boot with a mini GPS link (that does not work at the mo) Headunit now has Aux In so sound is sorted. I have the power invertor but would prefer to use a mini ITX with Car power link. Also have a 7inch touch screen for the dash. Have had it working a few times but never decided where to fit it, and on the rock I rarley drive any where I would need it, also seeing that the head unit will play DVDs once I have linked it to the sat nav screen.
Cret Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 I suppose that's the thing being over here really there's not that much use but it'd be nice to have. Can you get head units that have hard discs in them yet for massive MP3 storage? Me goes looking on Ebay.....
andrew_field Posted September 27, 2005 Author Posted September 27, 2005 Sony make one but it is very expensive. Some are now coming with 4.3gb HDD in them but the best around is still the Denison one. You can also get HDD attachments for some of the headunits, but with things like the ice link, where you can play and control iPods and the Sony MP3 players, there are becoming extinct. As you can see I have looked into this. The headunit I am using can play MP3 DVDs, with 1000 tracks.
Dave K Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 Lol, I have thought about it. But being a Tart I want the best of both worlds, factory fit unit for Radio/CD/MD + PC for MP3 and other toys. Just can't find a factory head unit with touch screen that you can link the touch part of the screen to a pc. Could'nt be doing with pulling a keyboard with track ball out each time. But there may be a new head unit going in soon.
