col666 Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Hi, I am an Electrician currently working on Hydro Power Station refurbs but all thats due to finish very shortly so fancy a change. Just wondering what my chances are of getting a job at the moment, was going to do my RGIT course off my own back then go hunting for jobs, is this the best idea? Also whats the best RGIT course to do, the cheaper one for north sea etc or the full monty mega bucks one!? Cheers Colin.
Gumball Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 book yourself on the RGIT course in Montrose. HERE go do the basic North sea survival course which i think from memory is a 2.5, 3 day thing. youll need a medical at some point. again i think you need this before?? ask. dont really need the european survival at this stage. hope this helps mate?
johns Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 There is a mutual recognition policy between most of the European countires, recognising each others training standards. If you do the basic (BOSIET with EBS) here, and get a medical done (must be a UKOOA registered doctor UKOOA doctors), then you'll be fine for travel offshore almost anywhere. If you are going to work permanently in Holland for example, then you would need to do an additional underwater escape training (with fixed windows in the HUET), but your employer would probably sponsor you for that. Given that there is a shortage of certain skills at the moment, then it's probably well worth while giving some agencies/employers a call, and if they are keen, then it's likely that they'll put you through the training. However, this might delay your start due to waiting times for courses, and if you had your own certs, then you could probably start a few weeks earlier. John
