Bit of a idle problem..

Bit of a starting up problem with the car just now, when its cold it turns over, catches/starts but as soon as it does the rpm drops way down to 200 and it almost dies, last night it did actually die. The thing is when it doesn't die it picks up again pretty much straight away and ticks over fine at around 1000rpm and runs without any probs. But this is annoying as hell cause i think its gonna die or not start all the time now and as soon as it catches now i'm pressing the accelerator trying to save it from dying and it can be a wee bit lumpy when i do this for first couple of minutes.

Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas? Any chance it could be the throttle position sensor?

Cheers for your replies and suggestions. Thought it could be the TPS because a couple of weeks back when my cam sensor went, the ecu diagnostic type person plugged in his equipment and the check engine light has been on since. When the ignition is on it flashes 1 long and 3 short, giving code 13 which is the cam sensor (now replaced) but it also flashes code 31 which i think is the TPS? i need to get the ecu reset to see if it comes back, i tried to do this myself by disconnecting the battery but the alarm went off and could be heard within a mile radius! so i had to put it straight bk on and i dont think it reset.

Every time i try and start from cold now its happening.. last night the first 2 attempts it died straight away then on the 3rd was totally fine. Same again this morning... 1st time it started but then cut out straight away and the second time it was fine face-icon-small-confused.gif

Does anyone know if the Throttle Pos Sensor could cause this? i'm going to try resetting the ecu again tonight to see if the fault comes back and i'll try cleaning the idle control valve to. Paul.. it could be the MAF cos the car has a pretty crap induction kit on it just now which is a bit of a mess (should be off by the end of the week thou).

Cheers
