Jazmac Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 I have fitted a new timing belt, lined up all the pullies, matched the number of teeth on belt between the lines as per workshop manual, but when we rotate the belt by hand the marks on pullies match but lines on the belt dont,It also takes two turns on the small crankshaft in the middle to match all the pullies up, should this happen??? your help and advice would be great.
drb5 Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 All i can say(as your discription confuses me a tad), is you should have lined the pulleys up with the marks on the new belt(also, marked the line markers on the old belt too, to compare to the new one). By turning the engine no matter how many turns of the crank, they should always become lined up. Did you count the amount of teeth on the new belt and compared to the old one? I'm wondering what exactly was the problem with the car....possibly showing there's a problem with the pulleys?
Jazmac Posted June 10, 2005 Author Posted June 10, 2005 the old and new belts are the same, we counted. we matched up the belt lines with the pully lines and counted the teeth between the lines, all as per the workshop manual. but when we turn the pullys together with the belt on the marks on, the pullys line up but the lines on the belt are out.
billyboy Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 After fitting a new timing belt if you line up the marks on the pulleys and belts as per manual thats the only time they will line up again after you turn the engine by hand.If you have rotated the engine a few times by hand and it doesnt lock up then take it as ok.I did mine a couple of months ago and its fine.I've worked on many makes of car over the years and the white. marks on the belts never line up with the timing marks again.
