Hi,

I am looking at a Scoob for sale in the local area (You may have seen it on the A89 parked up on the grass at the driving range)

Here is the description....

1997 SUBARU Impreza 2L Turbo,

R reg. 80000 miles, Brand new engine - done 8k miles, FSH , s/s exhaust, HKS turbo- timer, quick-shift gear kit, dump valve, dawes device , elec sunroof, Cat 1 alarm & immobiliser, K&N Cone filter.

It drives great and the guy who owns it bought it for a bit of fun but has only done 200 miles since last MOT and seems pretty genuine (he drives BRISCA Formula 2 cars at Cowdenbeath) - just wondered if any of you could take a look at it for me so I don't buy a lemon! face-icon-small-smile.gif I think my FTO is now sold (pending money coming thru) and I am quite keen on this car - unless you guys know anyone selling around here.

Also looked at the R plate Impreza Wagon at Braidwood (Livingston - next to Reg Vardy) which has 2k worth of engine work from Nobles - also a good price - but dunno if there is any problems with it either....I am scared to buy as I have not much car knowledge and certainly know nothing about turbos! face-icon-small-smile.gif

TIA

Yep my FTO is the one with the CF bonnet face-icon-small-smile.gif It's going to a new owner in the next few days....

That's the wagon I was looking at too - not keen on the red WRX they have in tho.....and the silver one on the A89 is at the golf driving range - just up from the garden centre.

I have done a LOT of reading up on the scoobs since b4 Xmas when I first considered selling the car but just want a knowledgeable type to check out any potential purchase...

Not a knowledgable type as such, more of an idiot with too much time on his hands.

I could give the car an initial check over but a qualified RAC or AA inspector would be your best bet for a more detailed report. If you do get the AA or RAC to check it over i will provide an explanation of any technical gumph they throw at you.

For a start the one at the top

1997 SUBARU Impreza 2L Turbo,

R reg. 80000 miles, Brand new engine - done 8k miles, FSH , s/s exhaust, HKS turbo- timer, quick-shift gear kit, dump valve, dawes device , elec sunroof, Cat 1 alarm & immobiliser, K&N Cone filter.

The brand new engine was probably a result of the oil from the K+N cone filter coating the MAF in oil and it melting the pistons. Not to mention the involvment of the decat and Dawes device.

What is your budget and does it have to be a UK car.

UK or Import are fine - needs to be fairly comfortable as I have a 7mth old wee girl and I've had enough of the low bumpy sportscar thing for a while! face-icon-small-wink.gif

Now I am scared after your description of the possible chain of events in the life of that Scoob! The original owner traded in a 205GTi for the Scooby (seller has all the original receipts) and I guess he must have thrashed the car resulting in the rebuild - I don't drive that hard and as it will be my everyday car I will be taking it fairly easy with a bit of fun thrown in now and then face-icon-small-smile.gif

Budget would be 6-6.5 max....unless it was a pretty new model in which case I would go to 7k. Mods are not too important as I want to keep insurance down plus I'd like to learn about the car's handling etc b4 I start modding....A wagon would also be considered as we have dogs! I think I'd prefer an import due to the usually higher spec and better condition (no salt on Jap roads...lovely!) and of course the extra BHP....

Thanks for the info m8 face-icon-small-smile.gif

Ok.

A general rule of thumb is the further south you go the cheaper the imports are. I paid £5500 for my 1995 WRX with 35.000 miles from Folkstone when a similar car up here was £8500

The STI 4,5 and 6 wagons had the top power of 280bhp as std.

The imports do have a chronic thirst for Optimax and will need booster if your a planning a solo spirited drive.

It is your Donald Duck[luck] to wether you get a good import or not but it is a good start by finding an importer/garage with a good customer service feedback.

Well I would have used JVS but Andy is moving to Japan to be a buyer so thats a no-no - I don't want anything from Calder and Mackay is too expensive which is why I am looking private. I'm on my 2nd FTO so I know all about imports, ESVA and specs etc but I need to replace my car ASAP for work.

Keith, I contacted Norrie about his car (he was visiting a m8 2 streets along from me!!) and had a test drive - as u say it's very standard apart from some ProDrive upgrades from new - Thanks for the info m8 face-icon-small-smile.gif It's one on my list now as he has looked after it and it's a good point to start from b4 I learn a bit more about the various mods face-icon-small-smile.gif
