Good evening all. just got back from the rally. bumped into a couple of people. Saw Andy F walking past, met sum1 from Galasheils (black 59 prodrive) and the owner of B 1 DOB that found it very hard to shake me off his tail.

Hope everyone had a great day.

Official statement

"An incident occurred in Kielder Forest on the Buck Fell special stage of the Brick & Steel Border Counties Rally at 10.15am on Saturday morning. Alan Barr the driver of a Subaru Impreza suffered a suspected heart attack and, as he was nearing the end of the stage, elected to drive to the finish. Within 200 yards of the finish, the driver collapsed causing the car to leave the road and roll over.

The rally emergency services were on the scene almost immediately and took both crew members to the ambulance rendezvous point in Kielder village. From there, they were airlifted to Newcastle General Hospital where the driver is currently receiving treatment."

My thoughts and best wishes go to Alan Barr and hope he is well and makes a speedy recovery.

I was hardly trying mate - damn road angel kept falling off the dash and had one hand on that trying to fix it in place - Only so fast you can go on such a windy road. Still you did well - credit where its due.

Someone told me the guy had died during the day so very glad that was not true. Also hope those involved in the road crash are ok too.

Very well organised rally and a good day.

This was a reply posted by Alan barrs navigator and long time friend Bill Ballantyne on one of the rally forums;

"As you all know, Alan suffered a major heart attack during last weekend's Border Counties Rally and despite all efforts, died at 4am on Friday 25th March.

Our thoughts must now be with Moira, Ashley and Pamela, Alan's mother, sisters and family.

At times like this, people always say to "remember the good times". It shouldn't be too hard; with Alan, they were all good times. I'm fortunate to have 30 years worth!

We would appreciate it if you could leave a goodwill message or your thoughts in our guestbook at Book of Condolance as well as here. We also hope to have this thread saved to allow your messages of sympathy to be passed to the family.

Details of the funeral arrangements will be posted on our website in due course.

Once again our thanks to all involved in caring for Alan over the last week.
