A message to the Scoobynet defectors

I've been an Impreza owner for around 3 years, and up till now I've never considered becoming a member of the SIDC. I did browse the SIDC forum from time to time, but I always found myself on Scoobynet sometimes for hours on end. I don't post much but I read almost everything.

Anyway I'll try and get to the point.

With the recent climate on Scoobynet, a lot of us have moved house over to the new Scottish section on SIDC. I think we should show our appreciation by becoming full members of the SIDC (if you haven't already done so that is). I've just purchased a years membership from the online shop. Who's with me on this?

here here - You've got to remember that most dealers offer 5-10% discount on parts & labour etc etc so a £30 annual membership can reap big savings in servicing costs (if u've got a UK car face-icon-small-wink.gif)

Have been a member for over a year now, just waiting on Doug's getting back to me about change of address, hhmm hm.face-icon-small-wink.gifface-icon-small-disgusted.gifface-icon-small-tongue.gif

£30 well spent IMHO

Dougster and I have been "discussing" for a while ways to get more people to use the SIDC Scotland forums as it is a "nicer place to be" - all it took was a Scoobynet revolt, major complaining, weeks of bad feeling, petty remarks and offensive discussions to get it face-icon-small-sad.gif Thanks for that Stephen STI-04!!!

First of all get a cup of tea....Just read this myself....

I have been a part of the SIDC for a while, but of late very much in the background I guess. We had, and still do, have a very healthy group of Scooby drivers in the Aberdeenshire area and my wife and I have made some tremendous and lasting friendships with a lot of people met through the club. The SIDC committee do a great job and I know folks like Willie, Cam, and hell JohnS is almost my neighbour in Aberdeenshire nowadays?.since he is no longer a city dweller face-icon-small-tongue.gif Point is the club is, and will be what we want it to be, and much more importantly, what ?we? make it. I fully support your thread and thought process here Bladerider, not to have a pop as SN in any way (they have done OK for us enthusiasts), but for us to see the SIDC grow and fill in the obvious gap that has developed; regardless of whatever the reasons for that may be face-icon-small-sad.gif

Anyhow, on a personal note, after a difficult 12/18 months of where I was starting to extend my previous house, then selling up and moving at the last minute, and then settling the family into the new house face-icon-small-shocked.gif I now want to offer my services and get back to helping the club and others where I can. My old house used to be like the local Scooby community centre, where kids would come past at the weekends to see how many Scoob?s they could see and count. We were always out and about on runs, with the local Smarties (led by the legend that is Tut) having fun at every opportunity face-icon-small-happy.gifface-icon-small-happy.gifface-icon-small-happy.gif I am one of the many in the NE who do have to work offshore (where I am now) on a regular 3&3 schedule. My dear wife has just gone back to work after 11 years face-icon-small-smile.gifface-icon-small-smile.gifface-icon-small-smile.gif so I have now have time on my hands while at home and will make time when I am away to be online when ever I can. As such I will offer my services to the SIDC as Regional Organiser for the Highlands & Islands and Aberdeenshire, supporting the tireless work done by JohnS (and others), both locally and nationally wherever I can.

What I would like to suggest, and ask of everyone here (if I may), is that we are friendly, respectful and treat all others the way we would like to be treated ourselves. BBS forums and e-mail are a very very difficult tool to use while communicating to others. Why? Because it is so damn impersonal face-icon-small-frown.gif with no direct feedback and even worse, no tone to detect and gauge the information you are sending or receiving. We must all remember that when you are face to face with someone only 5% of the communication you have with them is what is spoken, the other 95% is made up of everything else i.e.; tone, reaction, facial expression, body language, to name but a few. As I say, not the case on here!

A quick example of where this can be difficult amongst even our own gang, so to speak, and cause problems if you let it face-icon-small-wink.gif was a recent post on SN where one of my friends posted pictures of the Aberdeen meet we had all been at, and where my Sti was pictured with some really off the wall coloured wheels on it. In fact there were Sti pink face-icon-small-disgusted.gif daft I know, but what the hell, it was all for a laugh...and Numptie thought they were face-icon-small-cool.gif so hey, they must have been OK. However note, I did have two objectives in mind. Most of the posts with comments on this subject were positive and making fun of what I ?and we? had done to gather as much attention to our SIDC club stand as possible, in what we knew would be some pretty stiff competition (which it was I may add) and also to draw attention to the excellent Powder Coating services provided by our local friend and all round good Scooby guy called Young Keith Paterson of PPS Powder Coating, Inveruire. Where the two aforementioned objectives met face-icon-small-confused.gif Absolutely yes face-icon-small-smile.gif Did I take the daft track wheels off the car as soon as I got home face-icon-small-confused.gif Absolutely yes face-icon-small-smile.gif No harm done I hear you say?but then all of a sudden what's this face-icon-small-confused.gif I am an idiot who should have my car taken off me, and further more, I should not be allowed near cars ever again. All this and I am the one having dedicated ?mucho money to the ?silly? pink track wheels and mucho mucho family time? to setting up for the show in the first place, not forgetting hauling wet and winter weather tyres/alloys, a ladder, ramps, jack and a large plasma screen along for the day to show some footage of SIDC track days ay Knockhill to the crowds.

So to conclude my long story and make the ending short peeps?IMHO;

Lets make this work and I am willing to help where I can as a Club Regional Organiser (if required), lets show gratuity to the club by joining up, give respect to the Committee (and their decisions when applicable) and most of all give heaps of respect to each other...on here face-icon-small-wink.gif on the track face-icon-small-smile.gif and on the road face-icon-small-happy.gif

Phew - Jools, I need to go for a lie down now after reading War & Peace extended edition face-icon-small-tongue.gif

Thats good to hear they you are willing to assist with Mr Stewart and I'm sure he'll be more than happy for you to help.

You are bang on the button, the club is only what we, the members, make it. Hence me being a Lifetime member face-icon-small-shocked.gif, I intend on owning Subaru's for the foreseeable future and wish to participate in as much as possible. I've been a token RO for Central Scotland for 2 years now and found it very difficult to kickstart events solely for the benefit of SIDC members and since SN was a busier regional area I just used to tag along to some of the meets.

I'm sure the SIDC will blossom in Scotland now and whats even better is that the 2004 SIDC AGM will take place on our shores face-icon-small-wink.gifface-icon-small-happy.gif so there is an avenue for us to have a say in certain club issues.
