Numptie Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 Hi Jools, Question for you ... Can you recommend a nice / quality country type hotel close to Golspie. I have a sprint event there in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, it coincides with some mega piping competition so all the Hotels in Golspie itself seem to be full. TIA Cheers, N
scuba dou Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 Numptie, I would use the Bayview Hotel in Brora, a few miles North of Golspie. I have several Aunties and Uncles that live in Brora and we stayed there at a family wedding not so long ago. Great service and as grand as it gets up North. Real old feel to the place, where the Deer hunters and Fisherman go. Regarded locally as being posh £25 a night for a single room and £45 a night per couple; that?s B&B. Secure parking as well. My Uncle Richie (MacKenzie), who owns the local Ford Garage, just lives up the road. The other garage in the place is Rapsons, same as the buses in Inverness, and that?s also ?Family? as my Granny was a Rapson from Helmsdale. (next village North) Then there is my dads side of the family; the Coghill?s, but that's a different story. Most of "us" are from/in Caithness. Anyhow, hope this helps http://www.scotland-index.co.uk/sutherland...yview/hotel.htm
Numptie Posted August 28, 2004 Author Posted August 28, 2004 You're a star ! All booked up - cheers I was bricking it a bit 'cos I told CT a few weeks ago that I'd sort accommodation. I only got around to it today just to find nothing available. Anyway, thanks again. Catch up with you soon. Cheers, N
Gee Wr1 Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 Numptie when is the sprint on in golspie? Always hear of these after they've been on! Live about 30mins drive away & wouldn't mind going along 2 watch. Take it it's at the kart track?
Numptie Posted August 30, 2004 Author Posted August 30, 2004 Hi, The sprint event at Golspie is on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th September. Both days are individual events (i.e. two events) in both the Highland Speed Championship and the (Guyson) Scottish Sprint Championship. I'm entered in the HSC in class A4 (road sports cars up to 1700cc). I run a Westfield MegaBlade (Honda FireBlade engine). Approximate timings (for both days) will be as follows: 10:00 Practice runs start (usually two per entry) 12:30 Lunch 13:30 Timed (competitive) runs start 16:30 Prize cerimony The track at Littleferry is an excellent venue. It's set up in different configurations on the Saturday and the Sunday. Saturday is tight and twisty. Sunday is a bit faster and more flowing. Apologies in advance if you know what sprinting is all about ... there is only one car on the track at a time (actually two staggered). The objective is to get the fastest time in your class. Runs are (IIRC) about 1.75 laps. It's a great discipline IMHO 'cos to get a good time, you have to get everything (start and every bend) 100%. There's no room for error. I'm generally pretty slow but my philosophy is that I'm competing against myself and nobody else. If you make it along, please come and say hi. I don't know what my entry number is yet but I'll be the only lilac Westfield. There will be a few Scoobs competing - most notably (I hope) John Stevenson. Cheers, N
Numptie Posted August 30, 2004 Author Posted August 30, 2004 Sorry, yes, it is at the kart track (Littleferry). Cheers, N
Gee Wr1 Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 Thanks 4 that Not long after reading what sprint events are all about in Jap performance mag, does sound good. Will maybe make it up on the Sunday as will be at Knockhill on Sat for the last SIDC track day of the year. Will come say hello if we make it. cheers Graeme
Numptie Posted August 31, 2004 Author Posted August 31, 2004 Okay dokey - might see you there then. There's a good article on sprinting here. Cheers, N (Eric)
sandycam Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 Sorry Numptie just seen your post now but looks like jools kept you right Suppossed to be on dayshift that weekend but might try and get it off and maybe see some of you there. Cheers scott.
scuba dou Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 SandyCam Good to see you aboard as we say offshore. You seen a lassie by the name of Debbie MacKay in Thurso of late. Knows your car, knows of your Brother/s and knows of your Dad too by all accounts. She likes your car, but then I showed her a picture of mine Like she could tell the difference She works out here offshore Denmark too.
sandycam Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 Yea she used to be our postie! She tackled my dad about you on saturday i think but thought i was him if that makes sense. Good for him bad for me. p.s. she probably only likes yours better because it has more "pink"bits!!!
scuba dou Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 Sandycam That explains why she couldn?t tell the difference between an Sti8 and an Sti7, I mean to say if she gets you mixed up with you Dad well well, what can I say. Sounds like you will need more than a fast car to trap the birds up North there Scotty boy Maybe you might need some pink bits too
sandycam Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 Think you have it a wee bit confused surely you should be looking for woman with pink bits not the other way round!!!
scuba dou Posted September 5, 2004 Posted September 5, 2004 Remember we are both from the same place where men are men and sheep are scared Thing is I left your still up there... What do you call a crofter with 9 sheep up North...... A local pimp....
sandycam Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 I thought i knew who you were on about there for a minute but the guy i know just gets called lucky
