Martin S Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Hi guys. Just got my car back last night after getting new brakes on just before leaving to Glasgow. On the way down I noticed while driving there is a very light squeaking noise coming from the rear brakes. Once I put my foot on the pedal even slightly it stops though. Is this quite normal until the brakes are bedded in? Unfortunately im now down in Glasgow for the weekend so can't do too much about it. Cheers in advance!
scooby222 Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 ive got that with mine too Martin, garage said just needs a touch of copper grease on the backing plates i think it was?
Martin S Posted May 5, 2012 Author Posted May 5, 2012 Did you get it done? Left a message with the mechanics but haven't heard back..
scooby222 Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 err ran into some old dear before i could get it done so been in the bodyshop ever since should be back soon though!
Martin S Posted May 13, 2012 Author Posted May 13, 2012 This is starting to annoy me now. It seems like something is just slightly scuffing whilst driving slow but after a run it turns into quite a loud squeak. A bit embarrassing driving down the busy streets! I thought it might have just been the pads touching a bit but have done about 400 miles since fitting them. Anymore suggestions? Cheers
Phil MC Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 (edited) Warped disc perhaps? Will distort more with heat, the settle back down to an occasional rub off the pads at slow speed when cold? Oops, just noticed your first post saying they were new brakes. Was it new discs & pads on the rear? Is there any chance you cooked them before bedding them in? Edited May 14, 2012 by phil mc
Martin S Posted May 17, 2012 Author Posted May 17, 2012 Dont think they were cooked before bedded in, my old mum took the car over to me and said it was already making that noise. Would have thought the guy who fitted them would notice a stick caliper, he did do it in a bit of a hurry in the end though. Havent had a chance to see about the copper grease yet.
