well small upadte, cars been run in on rollers,

mapping on the new version simtek started and fine for run in, then up to 1 bar boost, then starting to det on no2 cylinder,

mapping halted

plugs out, all lightly fouled but number 2, injectors out and away for testing turns out 1 was faulty.

new set, flow and pressure tested, all good and back in.

tomorow back on rollers to see if almost full job can be done - so almost almost there!!

arranged collection date for 16th so just hope an hope all good for then, its just been too long now lol

but prefer any issues happend down there than here, hundreds miles away lol

steve mapped it today,

all just about spot on, but small issue with a boost spike to near 2 bar at one point. i think and again please dont quote itll be around 1.7 bar peaking? (for the guys in the know what boost level would you expect from my build) its just out of interest and personal referance. the spike i think is suspected to be a mechanical issue with bleed valve or something??? but please dont quote that because i cant actually remember what they said but a mecahnical issue somehwere, and not expecting to cause any problems and expected quick/ easy fix.

so plans are, sort issue, and pick up car in 2 weeks, nip over to steve, final run/map check on his rollers, possible power run and off up the road, hehe.

so again cannot fooking wait now, like being a bloody kid at xmas lol, but simon at api says its looking mint and sounds absolultey fantastic, esp when hits boost and starts churning out the power climbing through the revs :)

its the latest simtek ecu with the vast array of functions available, alot of which are way over my head, and i think there are a few that will not be utilised on mine. again ive limited knowledge/understanding on ecus, but of top of head the data logging function is not used as i have no way of reding any held data, i think its more for the well versed guys or possibly for mappers, of which im neither. possibly a whole host of functions aswell that it doesnt require on my car.

im sorry i dont have exact data for the guys who are interested in the new simtek, or want some more detailed information - you can ask me and ill try find out but its unlikely ill be able any but the most basic questions - sorry

anyway any comments or thoughts are welcomed, apart from the previously covered ones lol.

and as i said from start ill post up more shots when its home and hopefully the dyno graph, if its possible to get a power run at TEG.

thanks to all who took an interest and time to comment

if ever im forced to part with the car (not thats its ever ever entered my mind) this thread will be a great referance

cheers

You'll be able to run 2bar and doubt it'll be a bleed valve.

thanks for above comment mate - maybe sometimes i should just not mention what " i think ive heard" buts thats why i made sure to include the " dont quote me part" lol.

anyway once ive got accurate information ill return and correct the it, cheers for taking the time to read and comment bud :)

mrs got me some track day tuition for my birthday so ill be up at knockhill over coming months, and really hope to attend a few events this year, so please introduce yourselfs, so can put a face to names and thank those whove inputed, cheers

It'll certainly prove interesting the first time you put your foot down, I'd recommend you do it somewhere with plenty of space, good surface and no corners for the first few times.

Do your best to pick the builders brains so you know everything you can as a machine at this level of tune will need a lot of maintenance which will be difficult/impossible without all the facts.

If you are using the car on track you NEED access to the data log info its critical to see whats happening with the engine and engine systems. You need to be monitoring fuel pressure, EGT, oil pressure, temps, boost, revs etc etc so that you can see if anything is changing. That is your first line of defence in protecting your investment if you dont do that and dont know what your looking at then you are going to have some expensive maintenace bills coming up if you intend using it to its full potential on track.

thanks for the comments above,

play satan I am going from a 420/430 classic so have some experience with moderatly powered subaru's. however this is my baby, dream car and so I will be taking my time to fully learn how it behaves and operates before even thinking of using the power. I will never ever put her in any danger, it will live a pampered life. I have enough top quality oil and filters to last me a lifetime and after recent embarrarsing experiences with local "specialists" I will be doing all the basic maintainance myself.

Arch, I have got a track day booked where I plan to use the car a bit harder than is possible on the road. Its not going to be competative nor wll I be pushing it to its limit, just a chance to have some fun thats all. It will go to rr days, and quarter mile events and tbh is unlikley to see a track again.

Knowing this would you still stand by your posts, I have no interface to read data, would I have to book a session with a mapper to look over the information then feedback results. I will jst have the basic gauges to moniter oil temp/pressure and boost pressure, no means of checking EGT, lambda, fuel pressuer, etc.

Appreciate any further comments

taken me bloody 3 attempts to write this out and post as pc kept disconnecting from internet!!! lol

Basic maintenance is great but not really what I was talking about. Making big power out of a relatively small engine means a rigorous maintenance regime and regular tear downs for inspection.

On the gauge question my answer would depend whether the latest simtek has active knock control. The version I'm on doesn't so I have the ability to monitor knock, differential fuel pressure, egt and wideband lambda in addition to boost, oil temp and pressure. It makes for a rather messy dashboard but is essential and has saved my engine by warning of issues on 4 different occasions.

thanks for the reply,

kinda hope be a whie before any big maintenace is required, eg cylinder head rebuilds ect is needed, ill do oil and filter, fuel filter, plug changes ect myself. and as said before its a low milage machine.

any major strip downs/rebuilds i hope are a while away and will be returnd to builder to complete.

ive got possibly one of the first new version simteks to be out there and mapped, with active knock control, and the mapper is the man involved in its development - so i think he will activate and use all the features he thinks relevant? hope anyway lol. although im sure i dont have a wideband sensor anyway tbh.

Most of all Jeff go and enjoy the car at this level of power learn how to drive it, cause after a few track sessions the bug will bite again ha I'm going to have a read from the start on this one seems a good thread.

This is what I enjoy reading about, serious modders but again each to our own, we all have our own financial and constraints so respect to all who owns a subby.

But seriously take the advice off the lads below they know there mushrooms and will save you alot of money in the long run and I can speak with experience. I've had big issues that were expensive and if I had listen would of saved alot of money as you are aware you will never get money back on your toy what I can guarantee is the fun and wow factor.

cheers bud, agree thats what ill be trying to do with the car. enjoy it, that is.

i cant think about the money tbh on a build like this, and i know ill never get even half of it back , but i was never under that illusion.

its a hobby and therefore can kindof justify the expense (lol althought the wife doesnt think like that haha)

the guys here have given invaluable advice along the way. which has been great - but at same time, i love to learn, maybe make mistakes for myself, for me its all part of an enjyable experience.

hope you enjoy the read.

cheers
