ciaranrb5 Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 (edited) With a GT35 probably mid to high 500's if not more, put it this way your clutch will be on the limit What gearbox will you be running? Edited August 3, 2011 by ciaranrb5
jef Posted August 3, 2011 Author Posted August 3, 2011 thanks, yeah im aiming mid 500s im hoping for just a factory 6 speed box, i think its a uk box. cant wait to get it back lol. hope the rest of it holds together, for a while at least
fai17 Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Mid 500 to 600 but a billet 30 would be my option for a 2.1 build. Youll need a twin plater or a act clutch like Andy.
scooby222 Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 with my limited knowledge i was thinkinng a 35 would be pretty laggy on a 2.1 - but depends what your using it for?
jef Posted August 3, 2011 Author Posted August 3, 2011 think the turbos got a .63 housing which is small enough to help keep lag to a minimum? but open to suggestions? good to here some differing opinions , thanks yeah twin plate clutch is sorted. already got the RCM gt spec 2 headers and up-pipe, full exhaust heat wrapped anyone running same turbo as me, on a 2.1 and hows lag - if similar set up? cheers
ciaranrb5 Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 6 speed will be fine GT30 billet would be better, you will most likely not see full boost till 5k revs onwards
colin_ross Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Would expect 600 plus on that spec. Best to chose a turbo size after you've chosen what the car will be used for (road, track, drag etc).
jef Posted August 4, 2011 Author Posted August 4, 2011 cairanrb5 is that right revs wise? didnt think would be that late. obv ill be maintaining the engine in the best way, with oil changes ect. what would you think would be a safe-max rev limit on that spec? dont like the idea of taking it over 6.5 - 7k rpm tbh wont be driving it like that all the time but obv going to be driven fairly hard now and then on road, and hard on the occasioanl 1/4 mile, RR sessions, possibly a few track days per year. my builder has definatley advised that turbo with the given spec
jef Posted August 4, 2011 Author Posted August 4, 2011 spoke to builder tody, sid with a good mapper and with the smaller exhast housing wont be overly laggy atall. his words were we buid these engines day in day out and with a very good mapper, can be made to have minimal lag - not totally elimiate it obviously but shouldnt be an issue on this specced engine. so im happy with that tbh, so i have a recommended running in procedure - anyone reply how they would run it in, including oil types, milage ect. not trying to catch people out, but just gathering information and differing opinions - to help give the widest overall veiwpoint. from there i can use the information. appreciate anyones input cheers
ciaranrb5 Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 I think you will struggle to get 600bhp on a .63 housing going from experience. I stick the fact you won'y get full boost till about 5k rpm though. I get full boost on a 2.1 equipped TD05 20g at about 4k rpm and it is alot smaller than even my GT30R
jef Posted August 4, 2011 Author Posted August 4, 2011 cheer mate no the build was started and set around my requested target of 550bhp mate 600bhp was never mentioned by me or my mapper, altho ive seen a few mentions above. just to clarify that, any info on running that engine in?
scooby222 Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 who's building and mapping for you? just out of curiosity - if your quite happy with running that turbo then thats the important thing, andy forrest that maps most of the imprezas round here recomends the smallest turbo for your hp aims thats all. running in i believe is a thin oil for 50 miles, then slightly thicker for the next 950 miles, avoiding boost but not sitting at one speed or revs for any prolonged period, runs up and down the bears varying engine speed between 1500 - 3500/4000 rpm in your case at a guess. change to full fat oil at 1k then supposedly gradually increase revs in stages - ive just gone for broke after 1k and its never done any harm but that was standard engines
ciaranrb5 Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Here is the opinion on running in of a few people who are in the know http://bbs.22b.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=11;t=000843
jef Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 great link there mate thanks!! ill just go with my builders/mappers advice i think 1k mineral 10w40, drop oil an filter, 2k on semi-synthetic 10w40 then fully synth from then on, i bought this, 10w40, for normal raod use, and 10w50 fully synthtic for tarck use .
scooby222 Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 take it from the spec list its api building and mapping for you? they have a good reputation, cant imagine david steering you wrong mate
jef Posted August 7, 2011 Author Posted August 7, 2011 ok guys anyone care to guess what the best 1/4 mile time would be on this set up? eliminate driver error and ultr slow reactions, and what roughly the best it could go fully trimmed btw. i am btw a very inexperienced track/and 1/4 mile driver so wont be hitting the cars best, but itd be nice to see how far i am from the cars true potential. got a feeling next year it could be going on a diet lol
ciaranrb5 Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 I managed 11.68 with 400ish BHP so you should manage low 11's if not a 10
fai17 Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 550 in a classic should see 10s with a good driver. A bad driver in the same car might do it in 13s.
jef Posted August 7, 2011 Author Posted August 7, 2011 fully expect to be 13-14 on my first day up there, with hopefully improvents as i clock up some runs would ultimatley love a ten second car - that would be me truly happy and satisfied, my lifes goal met and settle at that or far more likley, hit a ten if its in me or the car, then decide - "its only another second to knock off" lol wheres my builder lol
fai17 Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 Who is building the engine and what turbo are you finally going for. You are to be looking into fuel pump swirl pot set up too.
jef Posted August 8, 2011 Author Posted August 8, 2011 would be quite surprised if a fully trimmed uk with my spec with a good driver could hit a ten in that, more likley a low 11 i think but never know. fai 17 pm me mate - i tried to pm you and something wasnt right? cheers
jef Posted August 8, 2011 Author Posted August 8, 2011 fai 17, you cannot receive pm's i dont know why but it wont let me send any to you, sorry bud
jef Posted August 9, 2011 Author Posted August 9, 2011 were destined to never communicate! its a conspiracy!!!
