Student_11 Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Hi, I am a student currently completing a PhD on safety in the offshore industry. I have carried out a questionnaire in one rig but unfortunately I am still short of participants to enable me to complete the study. I have found it particularly difficult to gain access to more rigs. I wondered if any offshore workers, who have a spare 10 minutes would mind filling out a questionnaire for me. It is completely anonymous and confidential and would really help me complete my studies. If so, please let me know and I can forward you the questionnaire. Thank you for any help.
ciaranrb5 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 me e-mail me the questionaire on ciaranboylan99@yahoo.co.uk
zeolite Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 If you want to take the project further get out here to the Rocky Mountain region and check out the safety on the rigs here. It will make your toes curl as it does to 3 or 4 guys a year...permanently.
RA Dunk Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I take it they still have the gung ho yeee-haaa 'good ol boys' mentality out there then ?
paul555sti Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I remember watching the drilling rig series that was on the tv. The one they filmed in America onshore was seriously Scarey watching
zeolite Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 That Texas series was a bit of soap opera. Guys out here have told me that there were auditions to get on that series so I wouldn't believe everything it showed. I have just about completed my OSHA and company safety stuff and the rules are there but adherence to the rules is poor from the drilling companies. Smoking on the floor is not uncommon. Company coveralls have to be earned and there are so many green hands it is really quite scary at times. I am going to be responsible for a whole bunch of young inexperienced guys and I am going to have my work cut out just looking after them. Student_11 I have 20 plus years of North Sea experience and a bit from other parts of the world. If you want something specific just send me a pm.
Student_11 Posted March 10, 2011 Author Posted March 10, 2011 Thanks everyone for the replies, Ciaran I have sent you an email and sent a pm to you Zeolite, appreciate the help.
Gumball Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 North sea safety standards are completely different to Saudi or the Gulf. Send me it to chrisprovan@yahoo.co.uk and ill help you out.
thefastone Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Yeah, send it to me too if you want... though is it rigs or offshore general that you are after, because I'm on a Dive Support Vessel at the moment... I have to say though, I am pretty curious that you have come onto a Subaru forum straight off the bat asking for offshore workers email addresses? Was this your only reason for joining up, or do you actually have a scooby/interest?
paul555sti Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Dale that was my fault! The guy posted on an old thread on scoobynet on the Scottish section and I suggested he would get more luck over here!
Student_11 Posted March 14, 2011 Author Posted March 14, 2011 Yeah sorry about that, hope it's ok to post on here. Don't get me wrong, there is some decent subaru's on here, so two birds with one stone! Let me know if you still want to do the questionnaire anyways, cheers.
thefastone Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 No, Your fine. Everyone is welcome here (well, almost ) I just making sure that your not just here to use our members and not give anything back, so that you leave them feeling used and dirrrrty.... Some of them like that mind. Fire away. Send it to me also assuming that vessels are also within the remit of your studies (I do rig work also) - dale@sidc.co.uk What uni are you studying at? Cheers, Dale.
Student_11 Posted March 19, 2011 Author Posted March 19, 2011 Appreciate it, I am at Liverpool university, I'm an evertonian though if that helps haha. Just emailed you the questionnaire too, whenever you get a spare bit of time. Cheers mate.
