WRX Blob or WRX STI Bug

I was indeed summoned... ;)

Can't say that I recognise the car though... The name may be familiar, but I can't think to be honest... I may well have seen it about, but there are so many scoobies up here, that actually remembering them all is a nightmare...

Think it was up for sale again couple of months ago?

was that Jen's old car W88chy? it was a cracker right enough - you still got a scoob?

that was my suggestion Dale, thought you might have been useful for something - youd have recognised it before you were a bigwig ;)

definitely hold out for the sti mate, the white one does look good but i dont think its got PPP on it by the exhaust, so standrad 265hp - but thats easily fixed :D

TBH I would be more taken by the looks than performance and as you say the potential is there to do more. The standard WRX STI would be like a new world to me compared to what I've been driving. But I know exactly where you're coming from buddy :icon_salut:

It was indeed Jens, then I added a few mre bits and another vist to Andy Forrest.

No Scoob since I sold that one, got a ST220 Estate that is possibly sold too - would love another, really miss the power/handling - but there seem to be a good few bins out there.

Even the Mrs misses the Scooby - never thought that would happen.

Seriously mate, be very choosy - take your time.

If possible buy from a fellow member - trace the history etc.

Also double check your insurer doesn't insist on Tracker, so you can factor the subscription in.

If you need any help, I'm sure most on here would assist if they could (even me, a scoobyless member).

Again, a Prodrive Bug should be in your thoughts, they also seem to hold their cash better too.

Charlie

p.s I am now looking at STi's again, never mind the E320cdi I was after lol

Any newage STI has some quite fundamental upgrades over any newage WRX, e.g.

  • Stronger gearbox, with six close-ratio gears (c.f. the WRX's five).
  • Stronger engine internals.
  • 35F/65R torque spit (as opposed to the WRX's 50F/50R) - most of the benefits of RWD with most of the benefits of AWD!
  • Front LSD (I think - certainly the later STIs all have one).

IMO the above features makes the STI a better driver's car than the WRX.

The STI has quite a few other driver-oriented pluses over the WRX, such as bigger brakes and stiffer suspension, which perhaps aren't as costly to retro-fit to a WRX as a gearbox or engine - but why bother with the expense/hassle when you can have them on the car from the outset?

I believe that the Blob WRX did offer a few mechanical upgrades over the Bug WRX (stiffer bushes, etc. IIRC), but whether these apply to Blob WRX vs Bug STI, I'm not sure. Probably not much that couldn't be upgraded without spending too much cash - i.e. I don't think there's an awful lot mechanically between Bug STI and Blob STI (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, Blob experts!).

I say "Bug STI"!

If you don't really want a real Prodrive Style - batter in as it isn't one (hate theses people who say Prodrive just because it has the sticker).

Depends what you are really after mate - do you want the rarity/looks of the Prodrive Style, or would the run of the mill STi suffice your needs?

Yeah I'm not too fussed over the Prodrive styling.

Sure it looks great but from the original post I was dwelling over a standard WRX or an STI.

So a standard STI would more than fit the bill.

How safe is 350bhp though in one of these?

some folks say the bugeye STI is the best they brought out.

I think the STI regardless has to be the winner

If you change your mind I have a 55plate WRX with PPP for sale lol

OK managed to sell my own car this weekend so now have cash in hand

Budget is down to about £4K though so STI is out the question. :(

Thoughts on the UK 300?

the sti will take 420 bhp and 405 torque in it.s stride mate been there done it with the bugeye sti it has to be the bargain performance car of the decade.
