marko72 Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I am thinking of removing the S U B A R U letters at the rear of the car......so best way/advice etc to remove them without doing any damage to the paintwork. Thank you.
C_WRX Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 (edited) Never actually done my own, but from previous chat believe there are a few little tricks used, but if I were to do it I would : -Heat up as much down behind the letter as you can get at (e.g. hairdryer or heat gun) doing a little at a time, loosening the sticky adhesive with something like fishing line. -Try resist just pulling the letter off as soon as you get grip through being impatient, get the heat on to it and it should start to feel a little easier to remove. -There will very likely be some adhesive to shift after the letter is off, something like autosmart tardis (great product) or autoglym tar remover. A quick wash if you can after using tardis/tar remover. Think Rigpig has done his?? Edited January 10, 2011 by C_WRX
Wee Jock Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 You can also buy a sticky adhesive remover which comes as an aerosol, plenty of that round it leave it over night. And as C_WRX says above!
wrxmania Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Heat it up (hairdryer - but don't melt the paint!) Dental Floss, fishing line, anything REALLY thin and keep it away from the paint (pull it away from the boot) Sticker remover will take the residue off - or orange oil, picking, pressure washer even... Brian.
JasonW Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Open the bootlid and put the heat on from that side, that way you really shouldn't damage the paint unless you completely bake it. Plenty of slow heat from a hairdryer or heatgun, and fishing line or something thin! Tardis or something similar( wd40 works too) and a microfibre cloth to remove the excess, and then it will prob need a clay bar and a polish to remove the ghosting.
rig-pig Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 as above, i used a heat gun and just pulled the letters off then some tardis to remove the glue
marko72 Posted January 11, 2011 Author Posted January 11, 2011 Brilliant guys, thanks for the replies.
supremeweb Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Open the bootlid and put the heat on from that side Do that then use fishing line to pull it off. I used a citrus based sticky stuff remover then gave the whole panel a polish and wax.
marko72 Posted January 12, 2011 Author Posted January 12, 2011 Hairdryer ..check. Fishing line ..check. Steady hand and patience .. check. Will give it a go this weekend. Cheers.
