scoobysp Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 My orange engine warning light has came on and was just wondering if grieves of falkirk charges for reading and resetting the fault code ?
Dougs Scoob Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 I don't know mate. It's maybe worth taking it to them on a Saturday morning when their possibly quieter and they might check it for you. (Check they have a technician in first) They're really helpful that way. Give them a phone and im sure they'd check the fault code for you. You dont ask you dont get.
scoobysp Posted October 16, 2010 Author Posted October 16, 2010 Light did go out and then came on again and then went off yet again - Planned to take it in to them this morning but didn`t get a chance. have had a look on ebay at the obd II readers - could be a good investment for £20 ish.
Spaceman Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 If your in falkirk bud i have a code reader you can try for SFA let me know and i can meet you.
pmacFTO Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 iirc error codes will reset after 3 starts of the engine (not in quick succession tho) - mine does it when coolant is low (got a wee leak) and it goes off after a few drives then comes back on again until I top it up.
smallcatalunya Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 cant you reade codes by switching the scart plugs under the steering wheel and read the flashes on dash (im **** at explaining lol) i done it a few years back on my wrx import the car come with stuff the guy printed off the web showing you what plug to swap then the light sequence with all the codes mine had a faulty crank sensor and this corrosponded with the blips after changing the plug over
Spaceman Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 only on the classics come to think of it what model is the car bud?
scoobysp Posted October 18, 2010 Author Posted October 18, 2010 Thanks for the offer Spaceman but I just bought myself a reader from ebay before I read the extra posts. If it doesn`t suit though I shall give you a shout. Tried the 3 start thing and it did go out for a while but it came back on again today - will have a look at the coolant level though just to see if thats ok. The car is an 05 wrx by the way.
Spaceman Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 reader should work but someties they don`t bring up the codes but most times will. Grieves will help you no bother though just ask for Charlie or Ryan
Big Gordon Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Hope you get it sorted mate. My light is on also, 03 blob wrx. Fault showing as lambda sensor 1. Anyone know how expensive these are to replace? Is it a tricky job? Apologies for hijacking your thread. lol
scoobysp Posted October 19, 2010 Author Posted October 19, 2010 No bother Gordon - you never know my fault might be the same as yours. Which brings me to my next question - where is the bit I plug the reader into ? Haven`t had the chance to look under the bonnet yet so any hints will be much appreciated
scoobysp Posted October 19, 2010 Author Posted October 19, 2010 under the steering colum im sure spot on - located in a recess near the bottom of the panel. Cheers.
pmacFTO Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 Hope you get it sorted mate. My light is on also, 03 blob wrx. Fault showing as lambda sensor 1. Anyone know how expensive these are to replace? Is it a tricky job? Apologies for hijacking your thread. lol There are two sensors - one is v. expensive and the other is not too bad! I got mine from Japparts and it was a genuine Subaru part of a car for breaking. Worth a look if you want to save a bit of cash. The ones from the main dealer can be expensive!
scoobysp Posted October 21, 2010 Author Posted October 21, 2010 Don`t know if anybody else has posted this site before http://www.basinger.us/Impreza/repairindex.htm if you read through the error code bits and then follow the test guide for it. Loads of great info on other things as well.
Spooky Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Is it only doing it when hot with the light coming on and off and on and off? If so, very likely just to be a lambda sensor. Very easy to replace, just unscrew and screw in new one. They are around the £140.00 mark now IIRC.
Big Gordon Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Mine stays on all the time. Fault code shows that it's Lambda sensor 1. The expensive one!! Typical. lol
scoobysp Posted October 26, 2010 Author Posted October 26, 2010 well it appears I have the same fault as you Gordon - going to check the harness between the ecm and the sensor plug just incase thats faulty. Have read about some people being able to clean off the deposits and using them again - just have to watch you don`t "poison" the sensor with the cleaning agent.
