wrx kenny Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 well folks , just thought i would post this up . i was working down at the borders general melrose last weeek from tuesday night till this morning monday.left home at about 6.30 tuesday evening shot along the m8 to edinburgh from airdrie , anyway the interesting bit , i joined the A 68 at the sheriffhall , to my amazement the road was almost dead ,i forgot how good a driving road the A 68 is some really good long straights and sweeping bends , just what your impreza needs on an empty road . lots of fun was had all legal of course . it was a pleasure and a laugh to drive this road . on the way home this morning thought i would take a different road home , so opted for the A 721 that basically goes from the back of galashiels to peebles then up to carnwath , for any of you that havent experienced this road its not apple cross but concentration and a big pair of kahunas is needed at times , its so much fun and again was virtually empty . you border boys have some real good roads to play with , even though i was knackered after just working 70 hours , the smile on the way home was immense all due to a cracking A road and an impreza ( slightly shagged engine right enough). thats all folks kenny

andy337 Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 The A68 is a good road. The 10 mile stretch from jedburgh up to the carter bar is probably the best bit of it!! Got to watch out for the undercovers and speed cops hiding on the 68 as well....i got caught averaging at 80 a couple of weeks ago. the new system in the volvos(speed cop cars) records and saves only one speeds which was lucky for me as they recorded my speed at over 100 while trying to catch up. oops!!! Andy
craigdmcd Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Got to admit, some nice roads down that way, but I prefer mine a bit twistier. The Strathaven to Miurkirk road is superb, if a little badly surfaced in places, and another favourite is the road that brings you off the A68 just as you've passed the Welcome to Scotland sign, and turns right towards Hawick or something like that.

Is that the road that goes to Bonchester Bridge? Have done that in reverse form Hawick
craigdmcd Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Is that the road that goes to Bonchester Bridge? Have done that in reverse form Hawick Yeah, I think so. It was back in the days when I used to chase the RAC Rally. The car just danced through the corners.I seem to vaguely remember a road close to it that was on the way out from the Kielder stages, then headed north - it had the most awesome unexpected jump in it
