hey folks,

got some realy daft questions that im not to sure of the answer of.

p.s its in regards to a 03 wrx sti type uk

1- accelarator pedal, in my car the accelarator pedal moves left and right by about an inch , it doesnt sit or move loosely or freely on its own , it sits bang in the middle but if u place your foot on it with a little pressure and then tilt your foot left , it will move to the left by about half an inch to an inch , same if you do it to the right, but it always centres its self again if you lift your foot of the pedal. It doesnt feel loose or anything , so what im wanting to know is... Is THIS NORMAL on scoobs?

2 - intercooler button inside car - ok ive read in the manual that the intercooler button is to spray water into the intercooler, when its been driven hard and heated up. how do i know when i should press the button? i dont realy drive the car hard , or even hammer it through the rev range, (except when a mazda rx8 was driving up my a*** and tried to undertake on me the bypass), but when i get it back from teh garage , is there some way of telling that it needs the intercooler button pressed or an indicator light on it..?

3 - what type of tyres do people recomend the car should be on? or psi shld it run at for normal day to day use. took it to farmers tyres in mussleburgh cause of a nail in the tyre and they took it off and found about an 8 inch chunk missing from the top of the tyre , guy said if i havent hit anything and its not a remold, then someones put cheap new tyres on it and the cars power has basicly been to much for it and its torns itself apart /failed under the strain . he asked if i want another cheepy on or sumthig better , i got an avon put on for £87, rims are the normal 18" ten spoke gold ones.

4 - saw on a subaru website cant mind where think it was a link from one on here, said a normal service £xxx or a full detailed service £xxx anyone know what the diference is, as the full detailed service was about double the price,

5 - like my rumble out of the standard exhaust , but looking for a little more grunt, what do you folks recomend and a decent place i could take to get it fitted that wont rip me off, did do the exhaust on my old corsa when i was a young nipper take the back box off, new rubber clamps on it and the paste at the joins but would rather someone proper did it on my "baby"

6 - how the **** do i upload pictures, i thought it mite be because im not a full member and just a forum newbie, cause i keep getting an error contact a site person if im not sure how to use the function, cant even put an avatar pic up , but ive seen other forum newbies posting pics, so wondering if im missing something out,

any help to some or all of those questions would be great folks,

p.s whens the next edinburgh meet, ;)

Ok i'll try...

(1) Absolutely NOT normal. Advise checking it out/getting it checked out ASAP.

(2) The spray does not spray water INTO the intercooler. It simply sprays OVER the fins of the intercooler (external). It is to help with cooling of the charge air because cooler air = denser air = more fuel able to be burned for given air = more power. Although it is also handy to clean dust from the surface of the intercooler which will also aid heat transfer. Don't worry yourself about this button. There is no time you HAVE to push it. It will not make one blind bit of difference in your normal driving, so strike it off your list of concerns!!

(3) Always use high performance tyres with the correct speed rating and a good reputation. Good tyres for around £100 per tyre include Goodyear Eagle GSD-3, Pirelli P-Zero Nero, Bridgestone Potenza REO-40. Avons may also be ok. Basically use something decent and do yourself and the car a favour. You say wheels are the "normal 18". The normal wheels are 17" and wear 225/45/17. You must have different wheels from standard if they are 18".

(4) Normal service will be an 'intermediate' service (basically an oil service). Oil and filter change and a few bits and bobs. "full detailed" service could be either the big service due after 3 years which is more comprehensive and includes gearbox and diff oils etc. Or it could be a cambelt service due at 5 years/60k miles. It depends on the age and mileage of your car. This will govern what service you need. Your car should be serviced every year - again it's well worth it.

(5) If you have much "rumble" out your standard exhaust then it's probably not standard! A well recommended place is Meercat exhausts in Kilbirnie (near Glasgow). They do amazing work and certainly won't rip you off. They can do whatever you want. Alternatively there is a myriad of different exhaust options available off the shelf. I had a Hayward & Scott centre section and backbox on my last Scooby and it sounded amazing! Not too loud but a lovely noise. If by "grunt" you mean power - the best way to do this is replace the exhaust system and then have the car remapped by Andy Forrest Performance (near Edinburgh). As far as the exhaust system is concerned, replacing the Downpipe and 'cat pipe' will give you the best gains (but may lead to MOT failure if you use fully decatted items - sports cat is a good option).

(6) I'm not the best to ask about uploading pictures. Somebody else can help you with that.

Good luck,

Cheers,

Mark

Only paid up SIDC members can upload an avatar.

cheers mark and micra thanks for the help, apreciate it, maybe i looked at wheels wrongly then maybe it is just the standard 17" , as for the rumble i meant the burble of the scooby , not so much the power side of things just hear the grunt/burble a bit more, but it is defo the standard sti back box on it , pipe even has sti writen on it, and im hapy with it, but my 48 year old boss's evo 4 has a loud exhaust on it he said he previously owned a scooby , and had the exhaust changed to give a loud sound , saw on the highland trip pics and vids, that alot of folk (3-4 drivers) lol had similar exhausts well the tail pipes looked similar so thought there mite of been a baseline exhaust that many of you agreed upon as a whole that gave yous a good soudning burble.

p.s cars already in garage has been for past week, with passenger window problem , engine management light being on and the gouge out of the front tyre, lol gues il wring them tomorow and mention the acelarator pedal now too lol, sucks cause i just got the rally decals delivered and wana get them on the car asap lol
