marko72 Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 I am wanting to find a sti7 scoop to replace my wrx scoop, really just for the look. Im currently stage 1 Andy F for my wrx but reckon stage 2 would be somewhere I want to go. An uprated tmic isnt mentioned at stage 2 but i think im aware of the added benefit. Now if I was to fit an sti tmic do you then need to have an sti scoop with sti undertray or not? Been offered a scoop with undertray but if Im not going to be fitting an sti tmic then doesnt seem much point in needing the undertray, or is there? Any thoughts, thanks
Richie Cross Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 (edited) Hi Mark, If you were to fit an sti tmic, to get the best out of it, the matching undertray would give you the correct fit with the rubber seal etc. I got the biggest scoop possible just because I like the look of it http://www.japperformanceparts.co.uk/part_...ry=&Search= Edited April 19, 2010 by Richie Cross

The STi scoop is also bigger, meant to pull in more air, so the undertray is a different shape than the WRX one inside the scoop. I have just purchased an STi undertray modified to fit a WRX scoop (really hope this works!!) as not overly fussed about an STi scoop. I spoke to AndyF about this last year and he said not essential to have an STi scoop, but the STi undertray fits in an STi scoop so usually the two go together. Edited April 19, 2010 by C_WRX

I've just used the STi8 rubber seal from the undertray and made new holes on my blobeye wrx undertray to fit the seal snugly to the sti tmic. The fact that all the incoming air is now being directed to the correct area by having the rubber seal in the correct place seemed to be an ideal way of getting the benefit of the larger tmic without having to either fit the much larger scoop with full undertray or having to butcher the sti undertray to make it fit below the wrx scoop .
