When I first got my scoob (MY98 STI) I found the fuel economy to be crap. Since then I have found a few minor faults such as loose hose etc, which once rectified seems to have improved the fuel economy. Maybe worth your while having a good poke around under the bonnet and check everything is tight.

In All fairness, its not even that they drink a lot of fuel, but its because its so damned expensive... When I bought this one, it used to cost about £35-ish to fill the tank, now, its about £60...

Thats Nearly DOUBLED in price for fuel... I mean today, and admittedly, it was motorway services, I paid £1.35.9 per litre... and last night I filled up at 10p a litre cheaper in Cheltenham... but still both times cost me well in Excess of £60 The motorway even more, because I was forced to put in another £10 of unleaded before I reached Abingdon...

Why nobody has gone down the route of mass fuel strikes again, I have no idea, it worked last time to an extent, why is it not happening now???

(Edit to say thats 2 different stations that I paid £1.36, on Friday, and today)

Too scared to pish off the government!

Most people only care for themselves, that was made crystal clear being stranded and the selfish attitude people had during the heavy snow at Christmas.

Totally agree with bringing the country to a halt but i think the tanker drivers were told if they strike again they would be sacked  anyway the government also mentioned using the army the next time a blockade started.

If i were a tanker driver i wouldn't strike unless the whole country stood by me.

Interestingly not one political part has mentioned slashing fuel duty pre election afaik

Note that whoever puts the prices up gets a political slating... but when someone else comes along they conveniently "forget" to bring it down again... Don't get me started on politicians...

HOWEVER... might I point out that the reason we buy these cars is to drive them. At the end of the day, a car will still cost you to get you from A to B. Surely what we pay EXTRA in fuel for a scoob is for the entertainment we derive in doing so?

And that's cheaper than drugs! *chuckle*

60 miles a day, full-attack where able.... and IMHO I wouldn't swap the scoob for anything else in order to do so!

just got my 03 wrx sti type uk , last week, still geting used to the fuel consumption ,and working out what its doing to a full tank ,looks like its gona manage 200miles to the tank, but costing me about £55 to fill up. did have a hyunida coupe 1.6 which cost £65 to fill up but gave me 285 miles to the tank , so im thinking that extra £10 to make up what i spent on the hyunida will get me an xtra 20 miles :P im wishing so not too much difference , but im only driving 5miles to work and back and most the roads are 30mph roads with the odd bit of road set at 60mph , but im luving that subaru burble as im driving through town at low speed , and with it painted rally blue with the rally decals on the front and side its great seeing it turning heads or seeing people having a look and gettin the attention, even better when you pull up next to boy racers or driving past them in their corsa's and fiestas and seeing them checking out the ride, makes paying for teh petrol to get it out there all that worth while .

Have to agree with ballistic. I had 2 impreza before going to an audi a3 when our daughter was born last year, the a3 cost me about £40 a week (although i did use it a little more) in petrol and the scooby cost me £55. So i sold the a3 after 4 months and got a p1.

It might cost an extra 15 - 20 pound a week but it's worth it when you get out of the car with a smile on your face every time.

during the last fuel protests when the hauliers blocked the refineries They lost the support they needed from the public after several days, when only another couple of days wouldv'e forced the government to think about it. Hauliers wont try it again because the support collapsed the last time.

Thing is Glyn, Were not talking a small amount here, if it were a few pence here or there, then I'd just go with the flow... but for a tank of petrol to double in price in just a couple of years??? that's Mental...

Good news guys, I may have come up with a way to brew my own V-power using potatoes and vinegar. :P

As soon as I have the results from the lab I will post the procedure .

yeah either that or the govermnent is giving out a little back handed payment aswel , but funny how most countrys fuel prices have stayed the same but the brittish motorist gets ripped off again , its just a case of shopping around for petrol id say , i use the morrisons petrol station with the mileage scheme where i get a £5 voucher back after so many top ups, but the price is £1.18 a litre, tho down the road near preston pans its about £1.15

I have been working out mileages and fuel at the moments.

Results are as follows:

250 miles to £60 (roughly a full tank) - this is for normal (and odd spirited drive).

Possibly around 400 miles to £62 - not going over 2K RPMs except when on motorways. I have not emptied the tank yet, but it was exactly 200 miles when the fuel gauge was at the half mark.

Just think of all that fuel duty we are giving to that robbing bar steward Alistair "my hair doesnt match my eyebrows" Darling ;):P

Sadly both these points are true... it's that or don't drive, though!

I just emptied that tank, and it is more like 350-360 miles instead of the estimated 400 miles I thought I would get.

I find the tank is not linear, and the first indicated half tank covers about 40 more miles than the second half.

After a bit of fun at Knockhill i thought i was doing good still having half a tank left, then realised i had done 55 miles :o

Taking it easy on the motorways though i get near to 300.

Im still fuming at £132.9 from BP the other night! Is it true that truckers cant do the fuel blockades anymore as they can be arrested under the terrorism act?. Ive heard this a few times

i use around 300/350 quid a month on fuel depending on how much i use it outside of going to work and back... but at end of day i knew it was never going to be cheap
