can i ask why you didnt get the car inspected by the rac or aa prior to such a long and wasted journey?? speaking from experience one persons view of a car being in excellent or mint condition varies a lot from others. would of saved you a lot of time and grief and money. hope you find the right car, there are still some lovely classics out there but they are just getting harder to find, i know im looking at the moment as well.

You getting itchy feet again, John?

I think if the right offer came along, I'd let it go. Can't drive it fast (shocking roads); only used as a commuting tool, costing over £600 a month to run (thanks to fuel and road tax)... Gotta ask myself is it worth it. Therefore, if the right offer was made that allowed me to settle my loan, I'd take it, buy a cheap car and spend my cash on other things.

It's not that I want rid of it, but I would let it go, probably with much sadness and no doubt, regret.

Can't believe the guys brass neck at letting us travel such a distance knowing that the car he had described was complete fiction. If that car is "very good condition" then I would seriously hate to see what his idea of an average car is.. more than likely be sitting 3 cars high at your local scrapyard. :P

Have put a large post of my thoughts in the guys For Sale Topic over on Scoobynet, which I won't copy and paste in here since I've quoted Phils reply to Melly and it would be a little 'lost' in this thread I think. My reply on the thread is here: http://bbs.scoobynet.com/private-sale-cars...sti-type-r.html

Had a good laugh through the day, real shame that we weren't driving home in a Scoob, but nothing handles being welded to the floorboards in 5th as well as a hire car... so the trip home was probably better that way!! Oxford to Perth, 386 miles, in 4hrs 40mins. :brickwall:

Cheers,

Grant

Well written mate. You sound like a good mate to have on your side :brickwall:

A classic. :P

If your spending £600/month you'd be cheaper buying a runaround and keeping the JW for a weekend car.

But I don't go out much in the car at the weekend and I enjoy driving it as well. My rear COs are goosed now too! No doubt down to our superb road surfaces - NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know how you feel - after not using the car much over the winter and then seeing most every decent twisty road within a 30 mile radius of my house turned to rubble, I was seriously considering whether I was getting my money's-worth out of the Scoob...

But I've started venturing further afield lately to enjoy some smoother-surfaced highways and, particularly after a good run last Sunday morning, have begun to appreciate again the sheer joy of driving a great Scoob on a great road.

If you have the time and the petrol money, it's worth taking the car somewhere where you can enjoy it properly again. I apologise for repeating an oft-repeated piece of advice (of which I myself was once sceptical), but a cheap wee second car really is a great way of keeping the weekday costs down and making you appreciate the Scoob all the more when you climb back into it :P

P.S. Melly - I don't suppose it's much consolation, but the title of this thread would make a great title for a Country & Western tune :brickwall:

I can almost hear Merle Haggard singing the opening verse:

"Well we don't sell rusty Scoobies in Broughty Ferry..." :P

If I was in your position JayDubya, I'd sack off the Newage... get yourself a cheap runabout to hack to work and back then get heavily involved in some Classic Impreza ownership for the weekends/fun times. :P

Thanks buddy, mainly replied to the thread to back up Melly as he's a low-poster on SN and people might have been inclined to take his comments with a pinch of salt... but I'm keen to tell everyone what an incorrect advert that Phil had written, specially guys like RBaz that was planning a trip from France!! :brickwall:

Yeah, but then I'd be spending more money to buy a second car then run that car as well. Its not really the money, its the value for money, if you see what I mean? I love the car but does it provide a "value" equal to the financial outlay? I'd have to say no, whereas before, I would have said yes. It would be a different story if I had future plans for it, but I don't. I have lost the track-bug for various reasons, and modding the car was for the track. So I have reached a dead-end in a sense. I couldn't face advertising the car and all of that, because that is a concerted effort and I'm not ready for that! BUT if a soul came along with ample reddies and said, "Geez yer motor" I might just clench my butt cheeks, hold my breath, close my eyes and say, "OK Hurry!" Then cry myself to sleep for a week, gradually coming around as I see all the new things that my extra cash purchased! But then again, the summer is almost upon us - long warm nights - Scoobie meets - pack mentality - road rage! That thought brought a smile to my face :brickwall::P
