Just wondered if I'm alone in this or whether it's something to take up with the stealership...

For some time now have heard an occasional tapping noise somewhere behind/ above the glovebox. Difficult to replicate - and no I DON'T have anything in the 'box/ on the floor/ under the seat/ under the mat.

Its increased to more of a rattle like a small bunch of keys, especially on rougher roads and perhaps also when it's colder (might be overplaying that bit...). The wife can defo hear it - thought I was making it up before.

Have checked the visible bits of dash/ trim, windscreen, engine bay... can't replicate the noise at all.

Wouldn't be, for example, passenger airbag coming loose? not sure how you'd even begin to check.

Anyone else got this niggle (and it is just a niggle, but I wondered all the same!) Or is it just lil' ol' me?

Hello,

I've not got this problem. But open the glove box, pop off the plastic connecton bit on the left ( pops off to the left). Put one hand on each side off the globe box and squeeze towards the middle. And hey presto, glove box comes out. Have a look in behind. Oh that's your cabin pollen filter in behind.

Nothing on mine yet, but only got about 1200 miles down so might not be happening with mine yet if its a common problem, post up if you find out

Nothing on mine and nearly 2 years old now! I sometimes here the middle rear seatbelt rattling in the holder in the boot if I don't close the cover, but other than that, there is no major rattles.

Well maybe....

this is just a suggestion..

my alarm kept going off all the time, 5-6 times a night wasn't uncommon. Anyway i took it back and it is apparently a common fault, something to do with the gps antenna for the tracker interfering with the alarm. Anyway i had a nosy after the fault was rectified and the antenna is a biggish black disc about the same diameter as a tennis ball and about 10-15mm thick. The point being it doesn't actually appear to be fixed down. Now as it is above and left of the stereo it maybe rattling and the sound travelling. As pulling out the stereo is a 10 minute job it might be worth a look.

Nothing there on mine after a year. However, I have an annoying squeak coming from the offside. Can't tell if it's the dash, the door hinge or even the suspension. Happens when I'm pushing it hard and there are any mid corner bumps, never just in normal driving. I doubt it's suspension as the front and rear ARB bushes and the front offside strut have been replaced under warranty for a different issue.

I had the alarm problem. A quick email to Sigma Sam told me what to do. It was a 10 minute job. Originally the disc is stuck down on top, you need to put a bit of distance between the two

Rear parcel shelf - I put a wee bit of rubber in.

My cars now 22 months old with 26k and no other rattles.

No Rattling from mine after 18 months and 11k miles.

The alarm does go off in the night but only when I park it on certain parts of the drive. A combo of the wind and the cold I think.

I'll pm you.

Thought you'd bought her a new Clio RS? And then I spotted the scoob in Kirkcaldy fairly recently... problemo?

Geo, for info, the parcel shelf fix is a doddle - get some self-adhesive 1-1.5cm wide velcro, take the 2 screws out of the springy end of the shelf "bar" (watch the cap doesn't go ping!) and then stick a "fuzzy" side of velcro round the end and rebuild it. Fits snugly but will still spring to hold the shelf in place... and NO NOISE!

... glad SOMEONE else has the same prob so I know I'm not going TOTALLY barking. Keep in touch mate.

Might try a few of these other suggestions:

Now, I wondered about this... stealer mentioned something about the sensor at one point, but I didn't really catch on... any chance of a "how-to" on yanking the stereo? I'm a bit of a wuss when it comes to ripping bits off me pride and joy *chuckle* I'll PM you, mate.

Any chance of copying that to me mate? I did the glovebox thang thisn afternoon as per your earlier post... tipped a whole load of crap out of the filter panel and *touches wood* NO noise since... but ain't REALLY been down the roads it used to rattle on since... not at any speed anyway! Bloomin' icy in places... there were 3 cars of en-route to work this morning and it was just as chilly tonight so I didn't push it. Will likewise keep y'all posted.

Thanks guys. Further input welcome.

Will try to make a video today ;-)

Strewth! That's a bit committed! Good on you mate, but I'll be surprised if you can hear much above the road noise... Looking forward to your efforts. BTW, where are you from?

Radio removal & alarm prob - PM'd thoses who requested.

10min job.

Indeedy... you have a goat, mate, albeit just to say thanks.

Still fairly convinced this is nearside dash though, rather than middle... any way of telling if the airbag's loose anyone? I don't fancy a head-on to test it out *chuckle*!

Finally had some time to 'try' and capture the sound... Will try to make another soon with a descent camera!

In the video, I'm driving over severel small holes (3) in the road. But you can here it also when you ride over 'the tar between the concrete plates'

Don't know if anyone will understand me but I'm doing my best (I'm from Belgium btw). The sound comes from the left side (Left Handed car here), I think somewhere arround the hood release orso...

You can hear it very good at 8 seconds, just small bumps in the road makes this sound, comes from the left in dash

And it's not the noise from the rear parcel shelf/cover?

Could you lot go out side and wiggle your airbox. Mine seemed a bit 'loose' and made noises going over bumps. I just took it out and put it back in and the sound was gone. This probably is not the noise you guys are hearing (i dont think have the rattle you guys describe). But this was one I had.

Brian

It comes from the front, very clearly. Maybe something with the suspension? Or with the thing in the dash? Fusebox? Hoodrelease? ..?

bit unrelated perhaps but jut got a new l200 and it has a similar rattle, had a look behind the glovebox and theres a spike on top of the ecu holding it in its cradle which is rattling-bit of foam round it and silence!

Will check it right away!! Looked over your reply yesterday B)

EDIT:

to bad the airbox is on the right side in the hood  Het Fuse box in the hood seems to be pretty loose too, will tighten that up!
