I can still see the pubs about 100 yards away as we're leaving.. they might as well be 100 miles!!! Think the guys on the bridge of the Northlink ferry found it rather amusing.. Merry Christmas everyone! Mark

sparky_sj04 Posted December 24, 2009 Author Posted December 24, 2009 They should change the old saying..... "time and tide (and the oil & gas industry) wait for no man!"
G.Mac Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 (edited) Hope you managed to dodge the "1000 ton" anchors flying accross the Crown and Anchor before you left Only ever did one Rig shift, well it wasnt a real rig shift, it was taking up the tow on the Shearwater platform when the weather got too bad before she was lifted onto her legs. Got sick of listening to the old mans Dean Martin collection within the first 5 mins All the best graeme Edited December 24, 2009 by G.Mac
sparky_sj04 Posted December 25, 2009 Author Posted December 25, 2009 Hope you managed to dodge the "1000 ton" anchors flying accross the Crown and Anchor before you left Ha Ha!!! How right that is.. I should've just stayed in the Crown and Anchor, everyone knows that's where the real rig shifts take place!! Now we're on location we'll see what happens, probably nothing for days! All the best Graeme and looking forward to seeing progress with the Scooby in 2010. Cheers, Mark

thefastone Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 Hope its a quiet one... flying 1000 Ton anchors in the Crown And Anchor...? Perhaps I'm always too pished to notice them when I'm (rarely) in there...
sparky_sj04 Posted December 25, 2009 Author Posted December 25, 2009 You'd need to be pished to go in there! A guy from my company is barred for life for... erm... soiling himself in the bar. It wasn't the fact he did it, more the fact he ignored it and kept on drinking! But that's another story.. Have a good one..
thefastone Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 Its a great place! But I only ever go in there when I'm working... Never go in at any other time... (Seeing that I live here...)
Hightower Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 brings back memories, i used to be on anchor handlers. now a rig pig CCRO on a platform, hope you have a safe trip i am going back on the 30th so missing new year not as good these days anyway
Hightower Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 the rig shift is not for the JW maclean is it near the triton platform, as when i left there was a rig shift going to happen around this time.

No it's the ENSCO 102 (Jack-up). It's right in the middle of the North Sea almost directly East of Montrose. Just near the Janice Platform. About 14 hours from Aberdeen. We put out the anchors yesterday, it 'jacked-down' last night, then jacked back up and today we've recovered the anchors again without it moving an inch! Madness. Apparently the pennants on the buoys weren't long enough for the forecast 8 metre swell. So they are back in and we're waiting on weather again!
thefastone Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Ah, how is the 102? I find myself mostly on the 92 currently... (not right now, though, I'm living it up at home! )
sparky_sj04 Posted December 28, 2009 Author Posted December 28, 2009 Ah, how is the 102? I find myself mostly on the 92 currently... (not right now, though, I'm living it up at home! ) Yeah it's not bad from what I can see from down here! The guys seem pretty sound to deal with anyway. It's only supposed to be moving 50 metres! Where is the 92? Is it nearby? It's a busy field out here by the looks of it, but we're not usually here so don't know the place.
thefastone Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Nah, its out in the east Irish sea mate... but moving every few weeks...
