scoobnoob Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Hi all, I feel like I’ve done every mod possible to my classic sti Ra vltd, without going as far as a full engine rebuild. So I’m swithering whether to sell it in its current state, or keep it and spend some more dosh on it? If I was to keep it, I’m unsure of what the next step in modifying it would be, so could someone point me in the right direction? And if I was to sell it, prob be looking at an m3, evo, or dax rush hayabusa My current mods are 550cc injectors HKS front mount apexi cone filter Fuel pressure regulator TD05 20G Apexi ecu, and avcr Exedy clutch and lightened flywheel Full decat, up pipe and down pipe Bosch fuel pump Brembo’s front and back with performance friction discs and pads Eibach front and rear anti roll bars Whiteline drop links, anti lift kit, and underbrace KYB adjustable suspension Carbon bonnet and wings cheers http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2691/417833...6efd253d0_o.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2706/417833...2d470e2e5_o.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2617/417909...24b6f26e6_o.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4048/417833...f2658508a_o.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2584/417909...ba6e90a5f_o.jpg
dan_jess Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Keep it keep it keep it! Hello from powerleague P1 (tuesday nights)
scooby222 Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 very nice and pretty great spec too, think your right with having gone as far as you can without capacity change/new internals what are you looking for from it- track focused, fast road, more straight line, better handling or just an itch for something different? id be very tempted to just enjoy as is,cant see m3 or evo being much faster unless you get a mightily tweaked one,dax would be a different league but a bit lairy impractical for the road
scoobnoob Posted December 12, 2009 Author Posted December 12, 2009 definitely track focused. had it at kames and knockhill this year, and it was a blast, could have done with just a wee bit more power and maybe a set of R888's, so thats why I'm thinking engine internals. Any idea what would be needed and the kind of costs involved? It's just a bit of a thought spending more money on an older car, thats why I've been looking at other newer cars, but I'm kind of thinking with the amount of good condition classic scoobs around on the decline, then they could become collectors items pretty soon, so might be worth holding onto it and spending some more dosh it
cullenmin Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Was there a noticable difference in weight between the OE front wings and the carbon wings? Rich
sparky_sj04 Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 It depends how you feel about the car. I went through a spell recently of thinking about selling mine, but then I realised how good the car has been for me so far, and how I would regret getting rid of it without seeing it's full potential and what can be done, and also that I'd probably end up buying another one, and it might not be as solid a car as the one I have! So it's a bit of a lottery. If you think you've used it like you intended, and fancy a change, then sell.. But if you think there is something left to do then hang on to it!!! If you have some further plans for it then go for it, and at the end of the day you'll end up with a hugely rapid car that you know inside out! Cheers, Mark
scoobyiain Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Go for an M3, lots of power options available and mucho rear wheel drive fun.
strapper Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Keep it m8! I nearly bought this car before you and it was fantastic to drive then! I'm sure it's even better with the mods you have done! Get rid of the 18's and get some light weight 17's with some sticky track rubber.
scoobnoob Posted December 12, 2009 Author Posted December 12, 2009 Rich, there was no weight difference on the wings at all, but they do look quite cool. I only got them because there was a wee bit of rust coming in on the original one’s Mark and strapper, you’s are right, best to stick with something if it’s a good one, no point in going back into the car sale lottery; although the M3’s are minted and are going for great money these days. But I suppose building the car up is how you become attached to it. Reckon a forged engine build could be the next step, need to get saving the pennies though! anyone know a good place to buy the internals, pistons etc? Strapper, I was actually looking into 17’s with a set of R888, but the problem was getting them over the brembo callipers, do you know a particular 17” alloy that will fit?
green_goblin Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 (edited) I think your good with what you've got.....M3 would get slapped with your current setup!! I know the costs as i have just done an upgrade so lets see if this helps you!! I got a closed deck block from ebay for £300 (thats the block you want to go with as its alot stronger) I then sent that to Alan Jeffery (engine tuner) and he done the rear thrust conversion and converted it to a 2.1 stroker with forged pistons etc!! i think that was about £2300 Then you have the option of 11mm ARP head bolts (£200 i think) or 14mm cosworth ones (£600 nas the block and heads need modified) Then you need uprated oil pump ranging between £170-£300 i think (i went 12mm cosworth one) Then I sent the heads off my engine down to him so he could re-condition them and fit them to my block.....with new water pump and Kevlar timing belt, gaskets etc i think that came to about £1400 I think in total just for the engine and the build etc i was about 5k.........after that i then done lots of other stuff like parallel fuel mod with braided fuel lines etc and insulated spacers etc....oil cooler......basically it can be a total money pit!! I done all the work on my car bar the engine build so i saved money there........basically you can end up spending loads, it just depends how much power your looking for!! Hope that helps Jase Edited December 12, 2009 by green_goblin
sparky_sj04 Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 anyone know a good place to buy the internals, pistons etc? To name but a few.... http://www.lateralperformance.co.uk/ http://www.hypertechscotland.co.uk/ http://www.litchfieldimports.co.uk/ http://www.powerstation.org.uk/ http://www.tsl-motorsport.co.uk/ http://www.scoobyclinic.com/ http://www.rogerclarkmotorsport.co.uk/ http://www.zenperformance.co.uk/ http://asperformance.com/ Alternatively just contact an engine builder and get them to source the parts. Cheers, Mark
scoobnoob Posted December 14, 2009 Author Posted December 14, 2009 Cheers for the links mark Jase, what kind of bhp you running with that set up? And did you have to change the gear box, I think the RA one might struggle?
