lewisscoob Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 As above, with my recently found power and torque, my clutch at 90k has decided it cant handle it so my question is which one should I go for? Ive heard of the Exedy and Helix units but unsure of which or any other recommendations to go for. I'd be aiming for 350bhp and similar torque with a five speed uk classic 'box in the now much more distant future. Any help opinions much appreciated...
frank c Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Give this guy a call for some friendly advice.. Alyn will keep you right. http://www.asperformance.com/
lewisscoob Posted July 20, 2009 Author Posted July 20, 2009 Aye Lewis, too many ponies now! I disagree, not enough ponies! The clutch was gonna have to be done anyway but I was hoping it would be more than 48hrs after seeing Andy! Getting a horrible feeling af deja vu! thanks for the link Frank I'll give Alyn a shout.
arch Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 As frank says give Alyn at ASP a phone. I used an exeedy 6 puck paddle clutch last year on the RA which was a 330ish bhp and it coped no problem with constant launches using sticky tyres. Alyn will be able to advise you on best options for your use and torque levels.
lewisscoob Posted July 20, 2009 Author Posted July 20, 2009 Thanks for help fellas I spoke to Alyn about the Exedy, Helix and AP clutches, he was very helpful and informative. Basically they will all do the job at 350/350 but the AP and Helix clutches are more comfortable as well as having a better/softer feel. I guess you get what you pay for. I'll go for the Exedy one and try to find it as cheap as I can to keep my other nodding plans on track!
sczscoob Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Spending the pennies on yer baby now Lewis! Sounds like Andy worked his magic on it the other day. Is it noisy enough for you yet??

I wouldnt mind if it was pennies Wayne... Andy did a cracking job, im fair chuffed with it. Its still not loud enough or quick enough an im not getting any popping or banging yet...beginning to wish i'd bought Ciarans Nur Spec R....Noises and horses will have to wait for the clutch and rear brakes, bugger!

Oh dear never mind eh Lewis. I did my clutch about 4k ago. I fitted an Exedy one from these guys http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUBARU-IMPREZA-TURBO...93%3A1|294%3A50 I was wary that it might not be the real thing but it seems to be handling the power no bother. you will also have to have your flywheel skimmed before fitting a new clutch. I actually have a spare you can get done if you wish? You should be glad you did not buy my Blitz it is stupid loud 115db+ I was embarrassed driving about with it. My HKS ti-tip is perfect. My rear brakes are screwed also. I have new disks and pads in the garage to go on though My car is staying in it's current state of tune for a while as iv decided to be sensible with my money for a while.

Dont want to scare you mate but...Is that not for an OEM spec kit? Camskill do them for £151... would we not need to get a fast road unit to handle the big increase in torque? I guessed that was why mine started to slip more than just wear and tear. Thanks for the offer of the flywheel bud, i'll see if I can get that done here first, I may be in touch soon. You work offshore aye? On the beach for long? I'd still like to give the Nur Spec R a go cause I want it REALLY loud! It might be a bit quieter on mine than with you 'cause I have the sports cat DP which may be muffled a little... What brakes are you going for? Im tempted to just get the cheap one from dingbro to save for now.

May just be an idea to upgrade your fronts as the rears are only 10% of your braking force anyway. The link i put was an idea for you of the seller, I got an organic one rated to 350 lb/ft. Was about £200 i think. Im home till the 31st then away for 2 weeks min. Give me a shout if you want a flywheel it will need skimmed. The cat makes a fair difference to the noise indeed it may make it more bearable. I managed to make all the glass fall out of the side of the green house due to the noise of my car starting when i had the Blitz.
WUZ Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 HKS sounding right this time Ciaran? Think you'll find the rear brakes do a bit more than 10% of the braking..............

lewisscoob Posted July 21, 2009 Author Posted July 21, 2009 I take it Alyn's prices werent any good would be surprised at that The clutch from Russel is a lot cheaper than Alyn's price quote for an Exedy unit to cope with 350lb/ft. Russel is doing me a good price on a flywheel too.

lewisscoob Posted July 21, 2009 Author Posted July 21, 2009 Result then Yup, does beg the question of are they selling the same unit...
arch Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 You wont have any issues with anything you are getting from Russel
