Gearbox Noise

Hi folks, looking for a little advice.

Had the car dfor a couple of weeks now and i have noticed a noise from what i am assuming is the gearbox, area of the car.

Its fine in 1st and 2nd gear but when i get into third, fourth and fifth it gets a noise that i can only describe as sounding like rubbing or a sanding noise. Its not to bad and the car goes into gear nice and smoothly with no grinding etc... it happens more when lifting of the gas and decelerating.

I had a look through the service history and the car had a p1 clutch fitted a little while ago and i am just wondering if this would make any difference. The gearbox level is fine and although i am wondering if the oil may need changed

any advice would be greatly appreciated

I'm told that's pretty common when lifting-off in lower gears - mine will make a noise similar to the one you're describing if I lift-of soon after accelerating in ST or 2nd, especially heading downhill (i.e. subjecting the gearbox to greater engine braking). I believe it's partly a function of the Scooby's lightened flywheel - less 'dampening' on that side than on most cars. Not sure what it means if you're hearing this noise only in higher gears. No harm in checking the oil level, though.

Hi Gogs

Nip the motor over to Doug Scott at Ashkirk he will tell you in 5 minutes if there is anything wrong with it.

Cheers

i was going to mate but he's gonna be out of action for a little while and i can't get over due to work commitments before he finishes up on thursday. I'll see if i can get on to one of the pits at work and get the gearbox oil done then take it from there.
