dundermus Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Hi I'm new to this forum and new to being an Impreza STi owner.. It's an 05 plate Prodrive UK model car and I've noticed that when it's idling, every 20 secs or so, the cooling fan kicks in for about 5 secs (the revs rise along with this) and then the fan goes off again. It never seems to be getting hotter than it should. On the civic type r that I owned before, the fan used to come on and stay on for a lot longer before going off. Didn't know if this is just how the Impreza is supposed to be or whether I should get it checked out. I know this is a basic question but as it's my new pride and joy any advice would be much appreciated! Absolutely loving the car.. Thanks!
colin_ross Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 (edited) If the revs rise when the fan kicks on I'd wager it's the aircon and nothing to do with the temp of the car.. Whenever the pump is triggered the ecu will raise the revs and put the fan on to help. It's nothing to worry about as it's meant to do it. Turn the a/c off and see if that cures it. dundermus Posted May 24, 2009 Author Posted May 24, 2009 Thanks a lot for the advice... you were spot on. Now I've switched the aircon off it's back to normal. You've saved me a trip to the dealership. Thanks! If the revs rise when the fan kicks on I'd wager it's the aircon and nothing to do with the temp of the car.. Whenever the pump is triggered the ecu will raise the revs and put the fan on to help. It's nothing to worry about as it's meant to do it.Turn the a/c off and see if that cures it.
