TPS_SCOOBY_2 Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Yesterday in Dundee minding my own business on the Kingsway in the works Seat Leon bang just before the Coupar Angus Roundabout the white Transit unmarked camera van, sneaky pr!ck yup I'm doing 70 I'm expecting the letter. Today a week after getting my new 18" Inovits fitted I finally pop back to the garage to get them checked as I'm losing about 2psi everyday, me thinking they have not seated correctly, how wrong can I be, the wheel is porous, visible hole in the inner rim and air bubbles where it meets a spoke more alarmingly every spoke has air bubbles under the powder coating where it meets the rims. The garage tells me not to refit as serious risk of total wheel collapse under load. At the same time I'm looking at the front wheel for similar symptoms when I'm aware of a section of rim about 4" long which is flat and the bead of the tyre is almost visible, I remember hitting the pot hole last week and grimacing afterwards but this was not expected. To add to the frustration I'm now running with an 80kmph spacesaver, I phoned both the supplier and emailed Inovit (no phone numbers on the website) this afternoon and neither have responded. As for the damaged rim is this sort of damage repairable or am I looking for a new alloy? What are the chances of having any claim against the council if the pot hole is still there? All answers appreciated.

Your alloy COULD technically be fixed by building up weld and grinding it but it would never be 100% and I really wouldnt recommend it. Its ok doing this on smaller chips or even chunks, but youve lost quite a bit. As for the council, yes you can claim against them. Take pictures of the hole, the road approaching the hole and the damage to your wheel. It will take a bit of time to get the cash out of them, but you should eventually get it. Ive claimed numerous times for tyres, and also once for a spring that East Renfrewshire paid out surprisingly quickly for. Good Luck!
