ed-209 Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 I've posted it in the technical section. Major brake fade after 2 or 3 heavy use on back roads (private back roads). http://forums.sidc.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=130493 Hope someone can help. Ed.
euan_r Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 when was fluid last replaced? hows the thickness of the discs?
wilky Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 As others have said It could be 3 things, all of which I have encountered. a. Brake fluid is gubbed and needs replacing, 5.1 the cheaper it is the quicker it goes "off" The synthetic stuff is great. b. Pads cooked (Redstuff in my humble opinion are not that great) c. Poor quality discs or worn thin discs. All these things have caused early fade on cars Ive run. Change the fluid and try that, If it still happens I would cut my losses and get decent discs and pads for peace of mind. Expensive but worth it. Hopefully its the fluid Ed. Callum

Callum I hope it's just the fluid also, but I did some checking on the red stuff pads and found this on there own website, so I think I will be changing the pads also. "Product: Yellowstuff - 4000 "R" Series - Full Race Pad Star Rating: Review By: Paul Steen Comment Subject: Performance Vehicle: Impreza P1.RE Purchase Location: Obtained from EBC Technical Support Comments: Hi Bob & Bart! I recently contacted you regarding the Redstuff Pads on my Impreza P1. Regarding my phone conversation with you last week I installed the Yellowstuff Pads you kindly replaced and what a difference they make! It's like a new car just out of the show room. The pads would put you out the windscreen, just what I wanted and I'd forgot the car had ABS, as the Redstuff Pads wouldn't lock the wheels in order for ABS to engage. Just goes to show you that the car shops selling these don't know what pad is for what car... I'm elated and thanks again! PS. Pity I've been using Redstuff for about 3 years and I was blaming Subaru's poor braking system... Sorry Subaru!" So yellow stuff or mintex extreme will be going on also. anyone used these, if so what do you think of them. http://www.ebcbrakes.com/bluestuffinfo.html Edited March 29, 2009 by ed-209
ed-209 Posted April 24, 2009 Author Posted April 24, 2009 Just a quick update, all the bits have arrived and being fitted tomorrow so by the next glasgow meet I should know if the problem is cured. Getting fitted, Goodridge hoses, Motul Brake Fluid, Carbotech XP8 Pads also getting done,Calipers getting checked to make sure not sezied or pitting on the pistons, Shield getting removed from behind front disc to help them cool quicker, the tarox G88 Disc are getting any lips removed and getting scuffed up to help bedding in the new pads. After speaking to Tim at Carbotech , leaving the redstuff pads on the rear as the fronts do most of the braking anyway. So here's hoping all goes to plan Cheers Ed.

Ed. hi ed ,if your saying brake fade ,thats not brake fluid causing the problem .fluid going off would cause pedal compressability ie pedal goes soft brake fade is pedal goes hard ,more friction created more heat no stopping power. cheers geo
