windy1945 Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Just went for a wee blast and man the car still scares me lol but i love it, personally i think a car needs a good hard drive every now and again think it goes a lot better after words , well apart from the brakes that is, smoke coming from them not a good sign cant wait till the next run
billyboystoys Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 yep ya cant beat it but i would check your brakes are not sticking on .billy
windy1945 Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 That's one think i have noticed with the scoob the brakes get hot very hot when driving/braking hard They fade a lot quicker than my Clio cup ever did
mystery machine Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Impreza turbos were MADE for B-roads I drive mine (mostly) gently back and forward to work during the week, then at the weekend - if the weather is right - I like to give it a good skelping around a B-road or twelve. Always feels better on the Monday morning for it* Never had smoke from the Vera Drakes, mind... they do fade pretty quick though - don't get me started on WRX pads... * This could actually be due to "continuous ECU learning".

Shame they had to skimp on the brakes in an otherwise fantastic car!

"OK car, it's like this - you make sure you stick to the road when I'm hooning it around the B-roads and I'll promise not to tune the radio to BEAT 106..." (Please don't offence - just a wee joke. I know some folks can be touchy about spelling, etc - I admit that I'm far from perfect myself!).
windy1945 Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 Away to drive my favorite road on Sunday he he going up to Glenshee hill waking, i just love that road especially from the spittle to the ski lifts
mystery machine Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Just while we're talking brakes, a few folks around here report improved results with performance pads. Some suggestions here: http://forums.sidc.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=121405 I was in a rush to replace mine after I started that thread, so unfortunately I went with stock pads in the end. Would use the performance ones next time!

Luckly she is going in to get the rear arches replaced on the 10th of March. My mate is cutting out the old rusty ones and welding in new ones then painting them plus a few other rust spots. He could do yours at a very good price if you are interested? I will let you see mine once it's done to see what you think As for oils try Opie oils and quote SIDC and you get discount. Doing the gearbox and rear diff is easy but doing the gearbox is a pain filling it through the bloody dipstick takes ages Edited February 26, 2009 by ciaranrb5

I tend to seek out slightly twistier stretches than that, where I can get the hairs on my neck standing up without busting the speed limit too much Great to find a road where you can see around the bends, though - give yourself room to bring some 'dynamics' into your driving
