Hi And A Question To The Kent Bunch

Hi all,

Not currently a scooby owner, however have been offered one as part of a deal in part ex for my current car. It is a imported 94 spec WRX. Now at first I was told it had some "minor overheating problems" which sounded to me like the headgasket had gone, and sure enough after getting the guy to check over a few things, and eventually taken it to a mechanic, showed that yes 1 of the headgaskets had gone. He then dropped the price and still wanted to go ahead with a deal, I spoke to a few scooby specialists, and found out that when these go, shortly after the bottom end can start to go. Was quoted around the 1.5k mark to have these sorted. I declined his offer and a little later he has offered it as £800 and the rest cash for my car, so basically a scooby for £800. I was wondering if anyone in the area knows of a place locally (or more local than the specialists in Cornwall and Birmingham) that will either sort this for a good price, or if I source another engine, who could swap them over for me again for a good price? Possibly any members on here who could do that sort of thing?

depends on how much you want that car, & dont forget more could be wrong..

you could buy it, & then make the engine better with more BHP etc... IF YOU HAD THE PENNYS..

if money is an issue.. i wouldnt..

as was quoted £1.5k for my bottom engine rebuild & it cost me £5k in the end...

Just be easier to but a top notch one... many out there for sale at the moment...

i would go with that m8 dont get a cheap 1 it will only bring you problems and if your spending that much more on fixing the car, you may aswell just buy 1 costing that much extra (less hastle) i have learned this the hard way.

Personally if the owner has admitted problems as serious as that, and is then coming back with further better offers I'd be running. Actually if it had problems like that alone I'd be off. Take your time and find a good one. As said if you get a bad one you could end up repairing it again and again, not only costing you more in the long run but ruining the experience of owning a scooby.
